This Saturday at 7:30 PM, Hilary Gardner brings a fresh and captivating musical journey to The Mainstay with music from her acclaimed new recording, On the Trail with The Lonesome Pines. Raised in Alaska and now based in New York City, Gardner combines sophisticated jazz vocals with the timeless romance of the American West, creating a sound that feels both vintage and completely original.
Backed by The Lonesome Pines, Gardner explores the world of classic trail songs and western swing inspired by the singing cowboy era of the 1930s and 40s. The music blends wide open western landscapes, cowboy ballads, jazz influences and the Great American Songbook into an unforgettable evening of storytelling and atmosphere. Songs such as Along the Navajo Trail, Cow Cow Boogie, Along the Santa Fe Trail and Twilight on the Trail capture the spirit of moonlit deserts, dusty trails and star filled skies.
The album On the Trail with The Lonesome Pines grew out of Gardner’s fascination with the freedom and imagery of the American West during the isolation of the pandemic. Featuring guitarist and vocalist Justin Poindexter along with Noah Garabedian on bass and Aaron Thurston on drums, the recording has been praised for its rich western swing feel, dreamlike harmonies and elegant jazz sensibility. The album reached #1 on Amazon Vocal Jazz releases and earned the 2025 Western Heritage Award for Outstanding Traditional Western Album.
