After 50 amazing years, it’s time to say goodbye. The Avenue Pub “the gay cheers” will be closing its doors — and while that’s not easy to write, my heart is full of gratitude.

For half a century, this little bar has been more than just a place to grab a drink. It’s been a home, a safe space, and a place of love, and memories that will last a lifetime. Watching friendships form, seeing generations walk through our doors, and knowing that we were and are a family — that has been the greatest honor of all. My intent was to continue the legacy of Gary Sweet. But it is no longer feasible. The continued climbing cost of goods, insurance, utilities, the state of Monroe Ave and the decline in business. I have no other choice.

To everyone who has been part of The Avenue’s story — thank you. Thank you for your loyalty, your joy, your resilience, and your love. You made this place what it was.

Though the doors may close, the memories and connections we’ve built will live on forever.

We will have our last hurrah Monday, November 3rd.
