It’s with a sad heart and a heavy mind, that we, the Axes & Ales team, are announcing our departure from the East & Alex neighborhood. I wish I could say it was for a failure in the concept and the brand, but more nefarious actors are at work. We were coming off our highest grossing year, in which led us to sign another five year lease.

Things were on the up and up, right? Wrong.

The Mayor’s Office decided to declare a meritless, blanket decree to shut down the neighborhood; installing a police state on late Saturdays.

Yes, there was some random crime happening, but nothing that’s not happening anywhere else...why not shut down the Lake Ontario Beach access?

This shut-down of the neighborhood was widely publicized on the major news outlets for a week straight (not their fault). That is when I experienced my decline... an instant 47% decrease in Saturday sales. This was after we were coming off of a steady increase year after year...really!?!?!

Our demographic is (was) suburban guests with discretionary income, family-friendly, and when they see this new implementation, they do not want to come down here.

I apologize for the rant, but emotions are running high with our team for getting the rug pulled out from underneath us. We did nothing wrong nor contributed to the so-called crime down here.
