It was twenty-two years ago, a long time in a lifespan when the members of Lambert Billy recorded over twenty songs for the second in a series of solo albums by the Woody Dodge front man. The songs were at various stages of completion, some in the mixing stage others just rough tracks when the project came to a screeching halt. Flash forward 20 years to a chance meeting between producer Ken Frank, who had worked on two Woody Dodge releases and Billy. They began chatting and eventually the discussion led to Lambert Billy. Ken had played on the project and worked on the production, the two decided to head back to the studio and finish it up. Cowpunk Retro was reborn. It was hard at first, “imagine trying to get your head back to the place your were two decades earlier” Billy said, but they moved forward and the recording began to take shape. Two new songs were added “Out of Luck” and “Can’t Find Love”. Mike Iten of “Damn the Flood” was brought in on guitar along with guitarist Chris Elmore. The result can only be described as punk bluegrass. Lambert Billy will be back at Abilene Bar and Lounge on Wednesday, October 15th.

Folk ROC: Songs of Peace & Protest at Abilene
It's an album release and political protest show all in one! Travis Prinzi and Jeremy Button, local Rochester area musicians, were deep in discussion: it felt like "self-promotion" in the music world was empty and unimportant while watching the country slip into the hands of authoritarians. So they decided to make and curate some music to make a difference. "Folk ROC, Vol. 1: Songs of Peace and Protest" is a collection of local Rochester artists who have something to say about our current political situation! In the tradition of the late 60s and early 70s folk and folk-rock era, you'll find songs here by Violet Mary, Oliver B. Burdo, Kelley's Heroes, Big Blue House Band, Aaron DeRuyter Music, Rose Elliott, Ross Falzone, Compass & Moon, Watkins & the Rapiers, Bernie Heveron, Growl Bear, and The Travis Prinzi Band. These artists will come together to put on a highly-charged, exciting, and important show, using their voices and music to speak out and fight back.
CDs will be available at the show! (Album will go live on streaming platforms a week later.) All proceeds from this project will go to Rochester Refugee Resettlement Services since immigrants and refugees are constantly threatened and targeted. There is no cover charge to get in the door, but opportunities to make a $10 minimum suggested donation will be available via tip jars and QR Code for Venmo, PayPal, etc.Folk

Boyd Parker Ambush
The Boyd Parker Ambush has its roots in Livingston County, much like the minor military engagement during the Revolutionary War which inspired its name. Led by two guitar-wielding lead vocalists Jeff Sherner (The Genesee Revelers) & Nick Cory Young (Burning Daylight), the lineup is rounded out by Jeff Simpson (The Genesee Revelers) on bass & Sean Sullivan on drums. The band’s sound draws heavily from legendary singer-songwriter John Prine so it's no surprise that the group is returning to Abilene for the fifth year in a row to honor and pay tribute to an artist often referred to as "the Mark Twain of songwriting". Expect to hear songs from throughout Prine's almost 50 year career and don't forget to bring your dancing shoes.
