L'Eroica Roanoke starts with pre-ride gathering and socializing at Cardinal Bicycle Grandin. Introduce yourself and enjoy! If you're new to group road riding please feel welcome to let an experienced rider know so they can give you some guidance and tips! The "seasoned" riders enjoy and look forward to bringing new riders in! As a group and individuals, all rules of the road are 100% adhered to. Being considerate and friendly toward one another, pedestrians and motorists is expected. Friendly, more than anything else, defines this ride :)

**Bike Fit / Setup**
A veteran cyclist and superfriend mentioned that there were a number of people with "not-good" bike positions / setups. If your bicycle isn't setup to fit you well you might be uncomfortable, unstable, find it more difficult to pedal, and ... in the worst case scenario, you might injure yourself. Proper bike fit can be a very positive game changer, and for this reason I super highly recommend having your bike fit dialed in specifically for you by a fit expert - numerous local bike shops offer this service. If you're not able to do that you can check out this video to learn about some very basic bike fit principles, but again, getting fit by an expert is your best bet. https://youtu.be/1VYhyppWTDc
What's L'Eroica mean? L'Eroica is Italian for "The Heroic" and it's generally associated with rides where vintage style bikes and gear are celebrated. Q: So do I have to ride a vintage style bicycle and clothes? No and no! Ride your favorite road bike and wear anything you'd like! But, if you have a vintage style road bike and/or vintage style clothes and you *want* to ride/wear it that is totally awesome! Vintage road bicycles are amazingly cool, and road cycling history is rich and beautiful, so the weekly L'Eroica Roanoke ride enthusiastically invites anyone who wants to roll a vintage machine and play dress-up to do so on this friendly group ride. We expect the vast majority of L'Eroica Roanoke riders to be on modern bikes and wearing modern gear *and* anything vintage will be celebrated!
