Blue Ridge Bicycle Club, Roanoke VA

Blue Ridge Bicycle Club, Roanoke VA The purpose of the Blue Ridge Bicycle Club is to promote and encourage the use of bicycles for trans We are the BRBC.

Based in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, the club has approximately 200 members who typically come from an area within 50 miles of Roanoke. From here, it’s a short ride to the rolling hills and challenging mountains of our beautiful countryside. The Blue Ridge Parkway, one of the greatest cycling roads in the country, is right in our backyard. The BRBC offers 6 regular weekly ri

des throughout the year, and up to 15 different rides per week during the summer. The Famous Tuesday Night Ride is the largest regular group ride in the state. Participants can choose between a demanding 25 mile route over the mountains and along the parkway, or a relaxing lowlands ride through the city. After the ride we regroup at the local tavern for rehydration. In addition to our numerous weekly rides, the annual Artie Levin Century attracts about 150 participants. When we’re not riding, we also hold a variety of social events, including a Summer Bash and a well attended Christmas Party. The BRBC also works hard to promote cycling and related causes. Our members volunteer to clean up greenways, fight for intercity bike paths, blaze new mountain biking trails, and donate to cycling related activities. We also put on USCF road, mountain bike and cyclocross racing events.

It is time to start organizing for a planned return to the health, fitness benefits and comradery of cycling. Small group social distancing meetups with non drafting rides might not be very social for now but would be healthy to be active again. The Blue Ridge Bicycle Club is looking for a half dozen enthusiastic cyclist to join together and give me a call to lead our club for a safe return to cycling in our community. We would call an outdoor meeting to vote on and set up a board. More communication and information can be conveyed on Zoom and other social platforms for convenience and safety. Call Wes Wilmer 540-354-9880 so we can launch our future.
