Today is National Autism Awareness Day.
This is a very special day to us here at Fairwood Lanes—it touches our hearts not only on a personal level, but from a business perspective as well.
Back in 2019, when we renovated Fairwood Lanes, we started our Superheroes League. It brought together youth, middle-aged adults, and adults—and it has been going strong ever since. It’s a wonderful mix of ages, and what these superheroes have learned here is truly inspirational.
They’ve learned how to bond together.
They socialize.
They high-five.
They smile.
They laugh.
They remember each other’s names.
And their love for bowling… I will always say, it’s one of the very few things that makes Fairwood Lanes worthwhile—because everyone knows this place can be a beast to manage. (Ha, ha… but true.)
But the smiles on their faces? Absolutely remarkable.
The parents have made connections. The caregivers have made connections. And not only is it therapy for our superheroes—it’s therapy for the parents as well.
Their love for bowling is unconditional. Many parents will tell you their child is ready hours beforehand—already dressed in their favorite bowling shirt, excited to go.
At Fairwood Lanes, we don’t just sponsor the bowling—we also provide pizzas, sodas, and celebrate special occasions along the way. From time to time, local businesses and individuals step in to help support this league, and we are so grateful. We truly appreciate it—and we welcome the help, because sometimes we need it too.
What makes bowling so special—especially for our Superheroes—is that it’s a sport where everyone belongs.
There are no tryouts.
No one sits out.
No one is turned away.
No one is judged.
Every individual gets their moment. Every person participates. Every person matters.
In a world where some may struggle to find their place in other sports, bowling gives them that opportunity—to shine, to grow, and to simply be themselves.
And maybe people don’t always realize that… but we see it every single week.
That’s what makes this league so remarkable.
That’s what makes this community so special.
For parents of children with autism, there are many daily challenges—but the love they receive and give is unconditional.
So today, take a moment—
Hug your child.
Hug a friend.
Or reach out to someone who has a child with autism.
Let them know you see them. Let them know you understand.
Because sometimes… they just need a little comfort, too.
Eat. Drink. Bowl. Belong. 💙
