FY2020. This year has been at best a challenge of our collective spirit, a cleansing of souls and an adventure into the unknown. At its worst, its been terrifying and relentless. Unimaginable tasks have presented themselves this year, many have struggled and overcome, but unfortunately many have succumbed to the fate of COVID. Jub Jub’s Thirst Parlor is unfortunately one of the many which will not survive. There are too many issues to overcome, and as hard as we have tried and as much support that has been received from the community it is still not enough. Jubs is and has always been a live music venue, for the people and of the people. Without live music and people, Jubs is…empty, a shell of memories. There is no way to predict when music will come back like in the before days and unfortunately there was no way to deal with a pandemic section in the business plan. Many factors have come into play since the beginning of COVID, including the death of our previous landlord, the building being sold, two shutdowns, family deaths and more. It was too much to overcome.
We did all that was possible to maintain the space created with this wonderful community of artists in the crazy city of Reno we are all proud to call home. The amount of love, talent and raw energy that was happening at Jubs on a daily basis throughout the years is a testament to the amazing vibe that is the Reno art scene. Hundreds of thousands of people of all ages have gathered and gotten high off music, seeing one of their favorite bands in an intimate, unpretentious setting. Jubs provided a unique setting for various types of events and although we could fit almost 900 people in the venue, there was always a good view from any vantage. Two stages also provided for great opportunities to have a variety of music and people in the building, nothing better than the metalheads and hip hop fans singing Prince songs together at the jukebox late at night. Without all of you, there would have been no Jubs. Be proud in your love of music, keep playing your favorite album over and over, don’t stop practicing guitar in your room so you can one day play that open mic, bands-keep practicing, start on your next album. This will end and even though Jubs won’t be there to book your show, some venue needs you and the arts should not be a total casualty of this terrible year.
The last day of operation will be 12/31/2020. Since this is not the time for a big goodbye blow out party we are booking small private parties, booking blocks of time for anyone who would like to visit in a secure, socially distanced group of your choice.
71 S. Wells might be haunted with the voices of thousands of people singing to their favorite song and that might be the best thing to happen out of all of this.
There are so many people to thank and give love to for their never ending support over the years please forgive us if anyone is left out: Family for believing and supporting-Brian& Maggie Smith, Alice Zaumeyer, Lewis Zaumeyer, Pat Smith for all the everything but also the amazing carpentry, Jubs wouldn’t be nearly as pretty without you, KT & Kai for being the best spawn, The Jubs team over the years but especially Dave Masud for being the solid rock of booking good music, Hamms and white socks.
