Happy Oregon Wine Month!!🍷 “Z” is for- Zinfandel!!

Zinfandel (aka Primitivo) is the name of the grape & has notes of blackberry, strawberry🍓, peach preserves🍑, cinnamon🥧, & sweet tobacco🚬

Tasting Room Reminder- May 29th

Annabelle, our sommelier, will be pouring for Melrose Vineyards tonight 4pm-7pm!

A tasting allows our guests to sample 5 wines of their choosing for a $10 fee. The tasting fee will be waived with the purchase of a glass to enjoy in the gallery or a bottle to take home!

Happy Oregon Wine Month!!🍷 “Y” is for- Yeast 🍞🥐🥖

Yeast is beneficial in the wine-making process because it eats the sugars from the grapes & converts it to alcohol, heat, & CO2! They also help protect the wine against oxidation!

Yeast contact, or contact with the dead yeast cells, can add flavors of brioche🥐, buttered toast 🧈🍞, & even caramel🍮 to wines! Champagne & other wines made in the methode champenoise use “lees” (dead yeast cells) in the bottle to add bready notes!

Yeasts can be wild, meaning they’re found on the grape skins, in the vineyard, or in the crush pad itself, or specifically chosen cultured strains to yield a specific end result. Natural yeasts can give expressions of terroir (sense of place) to the wine, whereas cultured strains lend more stable/predictable results.
