Some tastings are informative.

Some tastings are so much fun the video ends up under lock and key.

That’s pretty much what happened when Trevor Hogue stopped by DRINK with Annabel Butler.

We tasted through Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dave Phinney’s Santa Barbara County project, and got into one of the things Phinney is especially known for: blending.

At OLG, the Pinot Noir vineyard is divided into 56 individual blocks, allowing the team to work with different clones, rootstocks and growing conditions, barrel them independently, and ultimately choose the best pieces for the final wine.

Fifty-six blocks. One final blend. Very Dave Phinney.

Different blocks. Different barrels. Lots of tasting. Lots of tweaking. Which, as it turns out, is also a pretty good description of our afternoon with Trevor.

The wines? Excellent.
The conversation? Even better.
The video? Classified.

Some tastings are just more fun than others.

A few of these wines may even be joining their sibling on the shelves at DRINK. Stay tuned

Dear Friends,

The French have a wonderful word: ennui.

It describes that peculiar feeling that arrives in the middle of summer when the days are hot, time slows down, and even deciding what to drink feels like too much work.

We get it.

Between Raleigh's July heat & humidity and a shop full of incredible new arrivals, we've found ourselves with plenty of wonderful wines... and very little desire to write eloquent tasting notes about every one of them.

Instead, we'd like to offer a simple invitation.

Come see what's new for yourself.

Our shelves have been filling with bottles we're genuinely excited about. Bright whites that belong on the porch. Rosés that refuse to admit summer is ending. Chillable reds that love the grill. A few bubbles for celebrations both planned and spontaneous. And, as always, a handful of hidden gems waiting to become your next favorite bottle.

Sometimes the best wine isn't the one someone recommends.

It's the one you discover.

A Little Summer Break

The Mom & The Somm will be taking a much-needed family vacation July 24 through August 3.

Before we head out, we'll be doing what we love most: delivering wine, curating mixed cases, and helping you find the perfect bottles for beach trips, mountain weekends, backyard dinners, and everything in between.

If you've been thinking about stocking up, now is a great time to stop by or give us a call. We'll make sure you're ready for whatever summer has planned.

Our Biggest Summer Sale
August 4-15

It's back.

And just like every year, the rule is wonderfully simple.

The More You Buy, The More You Save.
1-5 Bottles 10% OFF
6-12 Bottles 15% OFF
13-23 Bottle 20% OFF
24-47 Bottles 25% OFF
48+ Bottles. 25% OFF

Whether you're replenishing the cellar, planning for football Saturdays, thinking ahead to the holidays, or simply taking advantage of your favorite wines at their best prices of the season, this is the perfect opportunity to stock up.

Need help building a case?
That's one of our favorite things to do.

What's New on the Shelves?

We've been busy tasting so you don't have to.

You'll find:
• Bright, refreshing whites perfect for summer evenings.
• Rosés that disappear far too quickly.
• Light-bodied reds that are just as happy with a slight chill.
• New producers we're thrilled to introduce.
• Staff favorites that have earned permanent spots in our own wine racks.

No list can do them justice.

You'll just have to come in and taste the story for yourself.

Looking Ahead

Summer may still be in full swing, but we're already looking ahead to a fall filled with unforgettable evenings.

Sake vs. Beer: An Oktoberfest Showdown
Thursday, October 22

Join us and Chef Jake Wolf for an unforgettable evening exploring one delicious question:
Which pairs better with Oktoberfest-inspired cuisine... sake or beer?

Expect incredible food, thoughtful pairings, lively conversation, and a few surprises along the way.

Ticket information coming soon.

Summer has a funny way of reminding us to slow down.

To linger a little longer over dinner.

To open the bottle we've been saving.

To invite friends over for no particular reason.

We hope you'll stop by before we head out, browse the new arrivals, let us build you a mixed case, or simply spend a few minutes talking wine.

That's still our favorite part of what we do.

We'll see you soon.

Cheers,
The Mom & The Somm

The Stanley Cup is back in Carolina, and few wines are more connected to this moment than Vineyard 36 Five Bands Cabernet Sauvignon.

Vineyard 36 is the passion project of former Hurricanes goaltender Cam Ward, who backstopped the Canes to their historic 2006 Stanley Cup victory, and Tim Gleason, former Hurricanes defenseman and current assistant coach on this year's championship team. Their connection to Carolina hockey is woven into every bottle.

The Five Bands label pays tribute to the Stanley Cup itself. Like the Cup, it is understated, iconic, and instantly recognizable to those who understand what it represents. The simple silver label carries a deeper meaning, honoring the pursuit of excellence and the achievement of reaching the pinnacle of the sport.

The 2023 Five Bands Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from premier sites in Oakville and Rutherford, blending 84% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Cabernet Franc. Crafted by acclaimed Napa Valley winemaker Keith Emerson and aged 19 months in 100% new French oak, it delivers the power, structure, and elegance worthy of a championship celebration.

At DRINK, we love wines with a story, but only when the wine in the bottle lives up to the story on the label. Five Bands delivers on both counts.

And if you're looking for the ultimate keepsake from this championship season, our friends at Raleigh Custom Burn can personalize the bottle with custom laser engraving. Whether it's a Stanley Cup celebration, a gift for the Hurricanes fan in your life, or a bottle destined for the cellar, a personalized Five Bands becomes more than a great wine. It becomes a piece of Carolina hockey history.

With Hurricanes fans celebrating across the state, these wines have been moving quickly. If you'd like a bottle to commemorate a championship season, now is a good time to secure one before they disappear into collectors' cellars.

The Cup is in Carolina.
The wine is at DRINK.
The memory can last forever.
