Take Five Thursdays is pleased to welcome Alex Han! He will be joining Leland Baker June 4th! Mark your calendars! Here's a little something about Alex:

Originally from Falmouth, ME, Alex Han is now a student at Brown University where he is pursuing a B.A. in Cognitive Science. Alex has been studying piano for 13 years, and has studied classical music under Tom Bucci Sr. of Portland, ME, as well as Matthew Fogg. At Brown he is a member of the Applied Music Program, having studied under Providence jazz musicians Ron Sanfillippo and Ed Tomassi. He is a member of the university Jazz Band, and has worked with musicians such as Ben Solomon and Barry Harris. He actively performs around the greater Portland area as well as the Providence area since coming to school here in 2013.

Alex Tremblay- Bassist, Composer, Educator

Born and raised in North Providence RI, Alex Tremblay found his passion in music at a young age. He came from a family of musicians which enabled him to hone his craft and would eventually lead him to further his studies at the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford, where he was a student of the schools renowned jazz department that was founded by the great Jazz Saxophonist/Composer, Jackie McLean. It was there that he met an studied with one of his bass heroes, Professor Nat Reeves. After completing his studies in 2013 he moved to New York City to continue to study, grow, and perform. He currently resides in Brooklyn and is an active member of the music community in and around New York City. He has performed at many well known New York venues such as, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Iridium, Minton's, The Kitano, Smoke Jazz Club, Smalls, Fat Cat, Sleep No More, Bar Next Door, SubCulture, and Terra Blues. He has also performed with the likes of Lew Tabackin, Bennie Wallace, Donald Vega, Shawnn Monteiro, Steve Davis, Winard Harper, Antoinette Montague, Josh Evans Big Band, Solomon Hicks Band, Highline Chamber Ensemble, Billy Drummond, Don Hahn Sextet, John Mosca, and Ralph LaLama.

Take Five Thursdays is pleased to welcome Leland Baker! Mark your calendars for this Thursday, June 4th! Here's a little something about Leland:

Leland Baker, a native of Providence, RI is an accomplished jazz saxophonist currently residing in New England. At age 21 in 2011, he earned his bachelor degree in jazz studies; performance from Loyola University New Orleans under the direction of Tony Dagradi and John Mahoney. He has recently earned his master’s degree from the University of Rhode Island in music performance under the direction of Jared Sims. Leland began the foundation of his musical career in high school. He was the recipient of the Duke Ellington award for excellence in jazz two years in a row and also the winner of the community player’s scholarship award which helped financially aid him through college. He received a full scholarship to the Rhode Island Philharmonic School of music in which he was involved in during his high school years. While attending college in New Orleans he was able to study with an array of acclaimed jazz artist such as Tony Dagradi, Jason Mingledorff, John Ellis, Dick oats, George Garzone, Sean Jones and Terence Blanchard to name a few.

In 2010 he went on toured with a New Orleans brass band to Normandy, France where he performed at the renowned venue Le Cargo. During these years in New Orleans he performed with the Delfeayo Marsalis big band at Snug Harbor. Leland has had the opportunity to perform at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage festival and Newport jazz festival several times. He has performed with Erika Flowers, Lyle Henderson and the Emmanuel’s, Zena Moses and the URI Big Band. He has opened up for artist such as Al Green, Yolanda Adams, Joshua Redman and Talib Kweli. To date, during his travels and stay he has performed and recorded with many artist including Trombone Shorty, Erika Flowers, Mario Abney, Jesse McBride, Godwin Louis, Victor Gould, Yojimbo, Eric Bloom, Ed Tomassi, Lawrence Clark, Kassa Overall, G-Eazy, etc. Leland continues to dedicate his time to honing his craft as a musician, saxophonist, composer and educator. He is currently working on his debut album entitled “Over time” which will feature his original music and arrangements. The album is due to release in the fall of 2015.
