Farmers Markets are opening for the season!

Today may be the unofficial kickoff of summer, but it’s also a day to honor those lost fighting for our country, which is something Julia and Paul took seriously. They both served in WWII, as part of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the forerunner to the CIA. Julia reported directly to OSS leader General William J. Donovan, and is known for helping develop shark repellent, while Paul ran the OSS’s Visual Presentation group and later worked for the State Department. Here’s a photo Paul took of Julia back in their OSS days in Ceylon (current day Sri Lanka; photo: Schlesinger Library, used with permission).

Bloom is upon us!

It's that time of year again! Bloom has begun in the Columbia Valley. Todd Chapman, vineyard operations manager at Sagemoor Vineyards, noted bloom in Chardonnay at Weinbau Vineyard (pictured here) on the Wahluke Slope May 11.

Katie Nelson, vice president of winemaking at Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery, noted bloom in Chardonnay at Snipes Mountain May 12 and subsequently across the broader Columbia Valley in Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc. Others have noted bloom beginning this week in Cabernet Franc on Red Mountain and in the Rattlesnake Hills.
