The Metropolitan Opera’s Live in HD 2025-26 series conclude with the highly anticipated new production of Richard Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde,” streamed on Saturday, June 20.

One of classical music's greatest works, Tristan und Isolde is built on the idea of a great yearning, irresistible and self-perpetuating, that cannot be fulfilled in this life. The prelude sweeps the listener into an ecstatic yet tortuous world of longing, and the vocal parts are of unique stature. The opera culminates in Isolde’s soaring final aria, “Mild und leise.”

Superstar soprano Lise Davidsen takes on the role of the Irish princess Isolde in the Metropolitan Opera’s production of Tristan und Isolde. Powerhouse tenor Michael Spyres makes a major role debut as Tristan, completing the couple whose enmity transforms to insatiable and self-annihilating passion thanks to a potent love potion. Yannick Nézet-Séguin takes the podium to lead Yuval Sharon’s transcendent staging.

Next up in the Metropolitan Opera’s Live in HD series is the encore transmission of Strauss’s romantic opera “Arabella,” streamed on Saturday, June 13.

The sumptuous production by legendary director Otto Schenk “is as beautiful as one could hope” (The New York Times) and captures the glamour and enchantment of 19th-century Vienna.

The score is charming, with a wealth of lyrical melody perfectly attuned to the demands of the story and characters. Strauss’s writing for the soprano voice and for the orchestra are magnificently apparent throughout the score.

Starring in the title role of the beautiful and strong-willed young noblewoman is American soprano Rachel Willis-Sørensen. Winner of the 2025 Beverly Sills Artist Award, Willis-Sørensen is known for her diverse repertoire ranging from Mozart to Wagner and has been hailed by Le Monde as “without a doubt one of the most impressive voices in the opera world.” Also starring soprano Louise Alder as her sister, Zdenka, and bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny as the dashing count who sweeps Arabella off her feet.
