Knights of Columbus Bike Blessing 2023
The Knights of Columbus in Southern Ohio are sponsoring a Blessing of the Bikes at Noon, on June 10, 2023. The event will take place at Our Lady of Fatima Shrine located 557 Old US Rt 52 in Ironton, OH. The Blessing will be conducted by Father Wayne Morris, with a Rosary at Noon, followed by the Blessing. This Blessing is free and open to all regardless of your religious affiliation or what you ride.
The Bike Blessing will take place following The Rosary at noon. Following the blessing, we will take a ride through the local countryside ending at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Ironton for refreshments. The K of C Hall is at 2101 S 3rd St. in Ironton. Everyone is welcome regardless of what you ride and where or if you attend church. Come celebrate the beginning of the riding season with us. This event is free for all who attend.
Bike Blessings are traditionally held in the Spring or early Summer. Many of these events are sponsored by motorcycle ministries or other groups such as the Knights of Columbus who have members who ride motorcycles. During the Blessing, a Priest or Minister, depending on the sponsoring organization, asks the Lord to watch over us as we ride. We ask the Lord for safe travels whether near or far and for a safe return to our homes and loved ones.
This Bike Blessing is one of the few in our area that is Catholic sponsored. The most publicized Catholic sponsored Bike Blessing took place in June 2013, when thousands of Harley-Davidson riders rode to the Vatican to celebrate HD’s 100th anniversary. Pope Francis blessed thousands in attendance in St. Peter’s Square.
This event is free to all who attend. However, anyone wanting to make a donation for the preservation of the Our Lady of Fatima Shrine, may do so.
