The Inspiration for Gibb’s Garage Bar & Grill

Gibb’s Garage Bar & Grill is a throwback automotive themed restaurant built for every hot rod enthusiast, grease monkey and shade tree mechanic. This is for every guy and gal who smiles when they hear an old-school muscle car coming. This is for you if you still drive just to drive with no actual destination in mind. Gibb’s Garage Bar & Grill--- Great Food, Fun and the celebration of the American automobile experience.

History

In the early 1950’s, Neil Howard Gibb opened Gibb Brothers Auto Sales in Rochester New Hampshire. A veteran of World War II, Neil was an accomplished helicopter pilot and father to five children, and he had a knack for making motors crank. So much so, that he instilled a generations deep love for all things motorized.

Family tradition

The Gibbs’ represent a long line of automobile enthusiasts. Dad, Uncle Johnny, brother Mike, Cousin Jerry and Uncle Wally all built and raced cars all over the seacoast. Saturday afternoons meant that lifelong friends crowded Dad’s garage in preparation for race night. The Gibb’s put the “hobby” in Hobby Stock as they pounded out dents and manhandled bent quarter panels into position to prepare for another night under the lights. We were all a fixture at Lee Raceway, Star Speedway, New England Drag, Beach Ridge and Hudson Motor Speedway.

The smell of high-octane race fuel, burning rubber, and race track concession stands are a part of my childhood that will be with me forever.

Dad could build or fix anything with a motor. My four brothers and I were brought up on mini bikes, go carts, mopeds, dirt bikes, three wheelers, four wheelers, motor boats, and any other motorized Franknbuild that we could imagine. We didn’t even realize how iconic the ‘57 Chevy or the ‘55 T-Bird was. The convertible mustangs, the classic copper poly Ford Fairlane, and the old Ford trucks were just a part of our landscape … another “project” Dad was working on.

My brothers and I would anxiously await Friday at 8:00pm to watch the Dukes of Hazzard, and we simply could not fathom why everyone did not paint a number on the side of their car and weld the door shut. We would only watch Starsky and Hutch to see the car; Knight Rider was definitely the future, and we all agreed that if any one of us were to ever own a black van, it would definitely have the A-Team stripe and spoiler.

I look forward to creating an authentic “Garage” experience shaped from my passion for anything with wheels and a motor. Perhaps we can meet over a beer and share stories about the great American Automobile Experience and how it has inspired you.
