Write a caption... Friday tasting featuring Gamay!
Have you figured out what wine to pair with your turkey this year? Join us this Friday at 1856 from 5-8pm to try some delicious Gamays. Gamay is the perfect wine to pair with your Thanksgiving dinner. We will have multiple versions of Gamay open to taste and compare. Come in and taste for yourself.
What is Gamay?
Traditionally, one would find red wine grape Gamay grown in the French region of Beaujolais (in Burgundy, as well as the Loire Valley. However, Gamay is now found in more areas around the world including Oregon, one of which we will be tasting together. The Gamay grape is relatively easy to grow and is an abundant producer. The wines made from Gamay grapes tend toward a lighter body with high acid.
Why does it pair so well food?
Gamay is a versatile grape with the right characteristics to make wines that pair with and enhance food. This is particularly the case for Thanksgiving dishes. The high acid can cut through the richness of heavy meals, helping to create a balance, enhancing both the food and the wine. Gamay also tends to produce fruity but dry wines. Its fruity nature supports the flavors of fatty foods. We are talking about you, coveted ‘leg and thigh meat’ and your dense friend, green bean casserole, which take richness to a whole new level. Being light on its feet, unlike most other reds, Gamay also works well with your every-day veggie dishes year-round.
Swing by the shop and try some for yourself! See you this Friday, November 10th from 5-8pm.
