On this day, September 5, 1813.
Off the coast of Maine, the USS Enterprise and HMS Boxer met in battle during the War of 1812.
Their commanders, Lieutenant William Burrows and Captain Samuel Blyth, were both mortally wounded during the fight. They were brought back to Portland and laid to rest beside one another.
More than two centuries later, their names live together at Blyth & Burrows.
Our name, our story, and much of what surrounds you inside these walls pays tribute to the two captains and the maritime history of Maine.
In life, honorable. In death, glorious.
To Blyth & Burrows. ⚓
