Here is something fun that happened last Wednesday which involves multiple teams from multiple venues. Post Dot's Cafe trivia, members of a couple of teams and I will often stroll down to the Rhinestone, a relatively new bar which we also love! We were sitting by their plate glass window when two beloved teams that play at Bare Bones walked by. We pressed up against each other upon the glass and they moved on; this was immediately followed by a Midnight Express impression from from 4 Non Toms. Apparently, this trivia jockey sighting sparked a wave of gossip authored by The Fighting Mongooses…they insisted that I was “on a date“ and were speculating wildly about who this phantom date was with. Should I be flattered that people think I travel in an entourage to go on dates? We didn’t take a group photo that night, so I have included at least one person that was present; the Trivia Wolverine is a member of the Diane Kruger Effect. Anyway, remember that gossip can be fun, so let the rumor mill churn at Dots tonight! In between flapping your gums, play trivia starting at 7:00.

Y’all just get it. In a whammy round a couple of weeks ago, I asked you to identify the signature weapon of particular film characters. The example I gave is that Jason Voorhees certainly may have killed with a harpoon and/or a liquid nitrogen tank, but his signature weapon is the machete. Y’all really picked up what I was putting down because my explanation organically turned into a call and response…

Me: “When I say Jason, you say machete…JASON!”
Y’all: “MACHETE!”
Me: “JASON!”
Y’all: “MACHETE!”

You nailed it! Will you wield wit as your weapon again tonight? Please do! The Snug PDX at 7:00!

Our dear old friend Jim, of the 4th Place Ponies, shared his final Portland trivia night with us at The Waypost last week. We’ll all miss him, and wish him the greatest adventure in Philadelphia! Join us for our first Jimless night at the Waypost tonight, trivia at 7:00. And if you raise a glass in Jim’s honor, make sure it’s loaded with cherries…he would want it that way!

I have the sort of scrupulous patrons who ask me to remove a point from their answer sheet when somebody has marked one of their wrong answers as correct. Surely then, you kind people must also be the type to choose VOTE over SKIP for Triviology in Willamette Week’s Best of Portland poll? It all adds up per the transitive property: if Triviology is the best pub quiz in town, then y’all are the best trivia players in the land of Port…we all win! Happy 100th birthday, Burnside Bridge! I love Portland, and I love that both this bridge and The Hollywood Theatre are a century old and still standing tall. Infrastructure, both transportive and cultural, is so important. Perhaps you’ll choose to raise a glass to one or both of these entities at trivia tonight. Choose between Bare Bones or EastBurn;showtime at seven.

There’s always fun shenanigans at Dot's Cafe, even when it’s not trivia night. Pee-wee Herman photo booth, Magic Box Vending machine, and there’s always a VCR playing a tape of a rad classic movie. On at least two occasions, The Fates conspired to have me write a question that happened to be playing during trivia night (you know these two films, right?!). Let’s see if lightning strikes thrice tonight! Quizzery at 7:00.

Congratulations to Shakul and the Gang; they totally won the iron maiden voyage at The Snug PDX! Last Tuesday was a great launch of a new venue; we had the perfect combination of old school Triviology patrons and Snug regulars that brought the heat. Not only does The Snug prepare a Taco Tuesday for us, but they also don’t mind if you want to picnic in some other food. Maybe this is gonna be your new favorite venue? Come play tonight and see! My berries are going to get ripe soon: blueberries, raspberries, strawberries! But when exactly? Let’s guess, with help from these photos, all taken today! Tell me which berry you think will first be ready to slide down your gullet. When the ripening happens, I will bring said berries to my venue that night, and if you are in attendance and guessed here correctly, you will get some! And let’s be honest…you very well might get some anyway, because I like to share. Also, who wants some pink roses? I have quite a few and will bring them to you if you tell me what night you’re playing. While we’re at it, let’s review the current Triviology schedule. First of all, I have six venues now locked in, although I’m not quite ready to announce the most recent one yet. That being said, SUNDAYS are still available! Hit me up if you want my quizzery in your bar on the Sabbath! For now, here’s the weekly lineup, with all go times at 7 o’clock…

It could’ve been bad news, but it’s turning out great! Our trusty trivia jockey John Doyle is stranded on the East Coast due to a weather based flight cancellation (don’t worry…John is visiting family so he’s A-OK and will be home tomorrow). Fortunately, a beloved old school TJ has leapt into action! Margaret began working for me at the The Hollywood Theatre in 2001 and became my TJ in 2008; and she is one of the people most responsible for helping me launch this successful business 21 years ago; you are in excellent hands with her. Here Margaret is pictured with one of the great loves of her life. Bask in her cheesy glow at EastBurn tonight at 7:00, or in mine at Bare Bones Cafe & Bar, also at 7:00.
