We spent two nights at Hale Pele during our recent trip to Portland, so we’ll do a few posts covering various aspects of the experience.
Starting simple, we were pleased to see the beautiful mug and cocktail modeled after their large booth named the Chieftain’s Hut. The mug makes for a great take home item and there are so many details in the design, yet unlike some mugs it isn’t so huge that it can’t be reasonably used to house a cocktail.
Speaking of which, the Chieftain’s Hut cocktail has rum, pisco, cinnamon, pineapple, and lime - plus some rose water which gives this cocktail a unique floral quality. It’s delicious and nothing like I’ve ever tried before.
The staff at Hale Pele did a great job working with us on our visits, and while I do enter some of these spaces with a reputation I could see the same level of care and hospitality being given to “normie” customers as well. We were especially impressed by bartender Nathaniel who we watched make six or seven drinks at a time, which is what happens when a large group gets seated in Hale Pele’s Chieftain’s Hut.
