Way back in 2001 (wow!) we stumbled into the basement of THE GOODFOOT and discovered an amazing dance floor built into the corner. We set up our turntables playing 60's soul and funk and you guys came- in droves! The first summer we broke the air-condi

tioner, blew the old sound system, and choked on the pre-smoking-ban atmosphere. It was a hot sweaty mess with 350+ people (plus BREAK DANCERS) every FRIDAY night, and it was a blast, and remains a soft spot in our heart. Over the years we got better sound, moved the smokers outside, and upgrade that old AC unit. We’ve kept it our mission to bring out some of the rarest slices of VINYL, and remain true to our SOUL STEW roots- mixing up the styles, keeping it fresh, keep the dancers happy, and have it be SOULFUL and FUNKY.

2026 Goodfoot- best place to dance! We’re still glowing and a little bit of showing off. Thanks to all the dancers, Willamette Week, and amazing DJ nights that have consistently put the The Goodfoot on the map for b***y shaking. Big ups to our funky Friday cohorts 1st Friday Super Jam, plus the monthly Tropitaal! night with 𝓓𝓙 𝓐𝓷𝓳𝓪𝓵𝓲, and Get On Up with Takimba and friends.

We’re grateful to have a home where we can share our favorite tunes and get the people moving. Cheers!

Friday Feb. 27th- We celebrate 25 years of Soul Stew at the Goodfoot!

Twenty-five years ago we walked into the Goodfoot, saw the hand-built dance floor, felt the basement vibe, and knew it was home.

At the time there were no soul nights in Portland, and most live music clubs didn’t even have DJs. Goodfoot owners GT and Neil took a chance on us — and we will be forever grateful!

The original DJ crew — Eric Hedford (Aquaman), Jason “Mr. Funky” Blumklotz, and Brian “Chef Brion” Martin — helped launch the night and we quickly had lines down the block. It was sweaty, smoky, loud, chaotic… and magic.

After the first wave of success, Mr. Funky retired from the late nights and Chef Brion left to open his wine bar.

Soon Ian Armstrong (DJ Soul Mechanic) and Brad Vachal joined up and brought new energy, deep crates, and helped shape the sound into what it is today.

We’ve danced through recessions, wars, hurricanes, the advent of iPhones and digital music, same s*x marriage, our first black president and our first authoritarian president — and even COVID shutdown.

Through it all, the music carried us. Songs about love, unity, resistance, joy, and getting through hard times and good.

We couldn’t have done this WITHOUT YOU!

So we’re throwing a party.

Balloons. Cookies. And Soul Stew classics tunes from across the years.
