In case you haven't already heard, with the heaviest of hearts, Thirsty Monk is permanently closing its Portland location in response to the continuing impacts of COVID-19.

We’ve had a great run, and we’ve immensely enjoyed building our Hawthorne community over the past 2.5 years. Unfortunately, with a lack of space to adequately social distance and keep our staff safe, and continuing challenges getting beer and supplies to Portland, we feel it’s the best decision for us to bow out.

Our kitchen partner Tight Tacos has also moved on to focus only on their Zipper location.

We want to sincerely thank everyone who welcomed us to the neighborhood when we took over operations at the former Bazi Bierbrasserie, and supported us through our evolution to Thirsty Monk Portland. It has been a pleasure to be a part of Portland’s incredible craft beer scene.

We're exploring all options while continuing to monitor the progression of reopening in Denver, with the health and safety of staff and customers in mind, given that our building is narrow, with predominantly bar seating and very little outdoor space.

We are absolutely continuing our operations in Asheville, North Carolina. Our South Asheville taproom is currently open with a large patio space for outdoor seating. We're currently remodeling our Downtown flagship location and hope to reopen later this year as North Carolina enters into further reopening phases. We hope to see plenty of visitors once safe and healthy travel resumes!

We are down, but not out. We will be sending posts of beauty as actions of hope and endurance. This is extremely tough for all and we want to make sure that while we are practicing we are still keeping close socially.
We are also working on ways to deliver yummy beer to you. While we can, please support our Hawthorne partners TightTacos. They are working hard to keep Portland in good supply of delicious food.

Yesterday was a truly heartbreaking day for our industry and our community. Our Thirsty Monk Portland taproom is closed until further notice. Please support local breweries and restaurants including our kitchen partner Tight Tacos who are offering to go services during this time of crisis.

A statement from Thirsty Monk CEO Barry Bialik:

With the most heavy of hearts, Thirsty Monk is having to close our taproom dining areas and reduce our team as we transition to To Go and Pickup Only at our Asheville locations. We’ve also had to close our Denver and Portland taprooms, as well as Top of the Monk and Monk's Flask cocktail bars.

This is clearly one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make in my life. I believe we can all remain strong and rely on our inner grit to get
through this together. My hope is that we will emerge wiser and more resilient on the other side of this world crisis.

Please continue to support all the other area restaurants and breweries by ordering takeout and pickup, including our kitchen partner Tight Tacos. We remain optimistic that we will be through difficult time sooner than later and we can bring our Monk teammates back to work and reopen our taprooms and breweries.

Monk friends and family -- as we're in a time of extreme uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, we feel it’s important to share with you all just a few of the many measures we’ve taken to ensure our taprooms and cocktail bars remain safe and welcome places of respite.

Our staff has been updated and reaffirmed on strict hygienic and cleaning practices. Common surfaces are being cleaned regularly throughout the day, and thorough hand washing emphasized. We also have stringent sick policy that requires anyone not feeling 100% must stay home.

We are diligently keeping abreast of all policies regarding public spaces and will comply with any and all CDC and local government directives.

In the meantime, we hope we can continue to serve both guests and staff. Thank you always for your support.
