With immense gratitude and a bittersweet heart, we—Cristina & Viv—bid you farewell.

CWB has been so much more than just a wine bar. It’s been a labor of love, a gathering place, a safe space, and a celebration of wine, identity, and connection.

From late-night prep sessions to laughter-filled tastings, from community conversations to the joy of pouring wines for new and familiar faces—we’ve poured our hearts into every moment. We built this space to center marginalized voices in wine, and the love and support we’ve received has meant everything.

As we step away from the bar, we’re filled with pride for what we created and deep appreciation for everyone who sipped, supported, and showed up. Thank you to our incredible community for believing in this vision and helping bring it to life.

This is not goodbye forever—just the closing of a beautiful chapter. We’ll still be around, cheering you on and dreaming up what’s next.

With all our love (& jazz hands forever!),
Cristina & Viv

Friends, as we head into our last week of service here at Community Wine Bar, we want to share a gigantic, special thank you to the folks - dear friends and family - who helped us bring CWB to life.

When we opened our doors in September of 2023 - literally the week before harvest 2023 was about to kick off - we had a lot of help thanks to the incredible humans who were there to help bring our vision for the space to life, and pour you the wine to cheers to a new start!

Our dear friend Tawn did SO MUCH to support the project, working with us twice a week from opening until February 2024, staying on as our Thursday wine-tender through the end of October 2024. Tawn, our talented, hardworking, knowledgeable friend and comrade in wine, was an integral part of bringing our vision to life and a vibrant part of the energy, space, and accessibility to wine that is CWB.

Our dear friend Elaise did SO MUCH to help us get things off the ground and established, helping us out behind the bar two days a week from our grand opening weekend through the end of 2023. Elaise, whom we both knew and had the pleasure of becoming friends with over the years, as a wine buyer and then a distributor rep helping sell both of our wines, not only brought her knowledge, kindness, and energy to the project but also was a massive support in Viv’s work to assess our space’s airflow metrics and COVID safety.

And last but not least, Aidan, Viv’s spouse, did SO MUCH to help us open and run Community Wine Bar. They helped out in a myriad of ways between behind-the-bar support as needed, behind-the-scenes work with Viv on our menus, and helping to cover the huge gap behind the bar from July through October of 2024 while Viv was recovering from last year’s major car accident - while taking care of our then-disabled partner in wine AND holding down their full-time job.

Please join us in thanking Tawn, Elaise, and Aidan from the bottom of our hearts for all that they brought to CWB! Community Wine Bar would not have been possible without their hard work and energy, and we are forever grateful for each of them!

Spring showers keeping you inside? 🌧️ Cristina is behind the bar this weekend with all your favorites for an overcast wine tasting. Brighten your day with some Orange wine, or embrace the season with a chilled red.

🍷 Looking for something new? Cristina will be pouring the 2022 Oasis Vineyard Malbec, the newest vintage in the lineup! A lively flavor profile and acidity bring a playful presence to this wine with an inviting royal burgundy in the glass. Though medium-light in body, the palate is delighted with raspberry crumble, cranberry sauce, and a mouthwatering finish.

Stop by CWB on Thursday & Friday from 3 - 8 pm, Saturday from 1 - 8 pm, and Sunday from 1 - 6 pm + if you miss Cristina this weekend, you can find her pouring next weekend at on Saturday, April 19.

Dearest friends, customers, & community,

It’s with a heavy heart that we share with you today that Community Wine Bar will be closing its doors at the end of April, with our last day falling on Sunday, April 27.

We are so grateful for all of the support we have received, the collaborations we’ve hosted with fellow Oregon vintners of marginalized identities and food vendors, and especially the tasting experiences we shared with you– our friends, customers, and community. It has been our pleasure to have been able to offer accessible ASL & Spanish translated tastings, guest winemaker and food pop-ups, and a variety of events over our time in business.

The reality of the situation is that it’s an incredibly tough time right now for food and beverage businesses in Portland - and beyond - and that industry variability, combined with our location in a quieter Portland neighborhood, has meant that the economic outlook for our business in the long term was simply not viable. We are grateful to have been able to work out an exit plan with our landlord that we can work with, and we are looking forward to seeing your smiling faces and sharing wine with you for our CWB farewell tour this April.

As we prepare to close our doors at the end of this month, we humbly ask for your support to help us finish strong AND ask that you make it a point to get out and support your favorite spots, wherever they may be, in Portland. We believe in Portland’s food and beverage community and will look forward to each having more time to support other food and beverage businesses from the other side of the counter.

🍷 Our CWB Farewell Schedule:

- 4/3 - 6: Viv at CWB
- 4/10 - 13: Cristina at CWB
- 4/17 - 20: Viv at CWB (3/20 is the last Sketchy Sundays!)
- 4/24 - 26: Cristina at CWB
- 4/27: Last day with both Viv & Cristina!

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for everything. We could not have created this warm, welcoming, and accessible space for everyone to enjoy wine free from pretentious barriers if not for you.

With deepest thanks (and jazz hands forever),

Cristina Gonzales & Vivianne Kennedy, Proprietors and Winemakers at Community Wine Bar
