Like so many of you, our hearts are heavy today at the news of Dolly Parton’s passing. 💗

When we chose Dolly as the inspiration for our Downtown Dolly event, it wasn’t simply because we loved her music, her rhinestones, or her larger-than-life style (or the very large Dolly cutout one of us happened to have!). We chose her because there was so very much to admire about the woman behind them.

Dolly showed us that you could be glamorous and gracious. Successful and generous. Strong and kind. She was a remarkably talented artist and songwriter, a savvy businesswoman and entrepreneur, and a philanthropist who used her success to make life better for others—especially children. She carried herself with humor, humility, confidence and class, never seeming to forget where she came from along the way.

And, of course, she taught generations of women that there is absolutely nothing wrong with adding a few more rhinestones. ✨

With our Downtown Dolly event happening this Thursday 8/27, this news feels especially bittersweet. After some discussion, we believe the best way to honor Dolly is to do exactly what we had planned: come together, turn up the music, dress up, laugh with our friends, support our local businesses and celebrate a woman who brought so much joy into the world.

So Downtown Dolly will go on. But now, it will mean just a little bit more.

This Thursday, we’ll sing a little louder, sparkle a little brighter, and celebrate the incredible life and legacy of a woman who showed us that a big personality and an even bigger heart can change the world.

This one’s for you, Dolly. 💗✨
