Today I come to you to share the devastating news of the loss of one of our members.
Mr. Gerard “Jerry” Ritchotte
Mr. Ritchotte known to many of us as Jerry was a past commander of our post and a long time member. More importantly a friend to many. He has done so much for our post and his time given does not go unnoticed. On January 19, 2026 Jerry passed away at home. His wife Patty Ritchotte, grandson Dustin and wife Kelly, and special friend Garland are asking you join us for a celebration of life on January 31, 2026 at 1PM (details below). Let’s gather and share our memories.
A message from your bar manager
When i first met Jerry he intimated me a little bit but i didn’t let him know that. He seemed stubborn and direct but within that first hour of knowing him I learned he was a kind man who just knew what he wanted. He came with his wife Patty and the two of them together made the room feel welcoming, comfortable, and full of life. Quickly they became like family to me. Jerry loved when the vfw was full of love and laughter. Playing his keno and visiting with his long time friends. The vfw was Jerry’s second home. When I took the job as bar manager I came in expecting to be a bartender with some extra responsibilities. That’s my job but with this job I am more than just bartending. I’m building a second family. Jerry was one of the first guys to show me how quickly I was going to gain an extended family. People I truly love and care about, people I check up on, people I worry about if I haven’t heard from them. I’ve grown a huge family at our post and loosing Jerry has been my second loss in a years time. No matter if you expect it or not the goodbyes are hard and sad. I didn’t know this came with the job. This is the part of joining the VFW family you can’t prepare for, it’s not in your job description. My last visit with Jerry I’ll never forget. He did his best with one more time singing the line of “ring of fire” and told me goodbye and love you. Jerry is already missed by so many of us and we will carry on his memory.
I can share from all of us at the Plainfield VFW that we are sorry for the loss of Jerry and that his wife Patty and family are in our thoughts.
Sincerely,
Tina Marie
