We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Larry Chadwick Jr.
Larry spent his childhood summers hunting and fishing in Maine, developing a lifelong love for the outdoors. After spending several years working in New York City during his twenties, he realized that city life was not where his heart belonged.
Together with his young wife, Anne, Larry purchased a small piece of farmland in Pittston, Maine, and never looked back. With determination, hard work, and a modest income, he gradually acquired the surrounding land.
Today, that property spans more than 99 acres and is home to hundreds of trees that Larry planted himself, creating what he affectionately and humorously called “Doom Forest.”
A lifetime of hard work - cutting his own wood, tending his land, and forging his own path - gave Larry a strength of body and spirit that seemed timeless. His resilience, independence, and positive outlook remained with him throughout his life.
Throughout his 90 years, Larry left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He touched countless lives with his kindness, warmth, and sense of humor. Whether through a kind compliment, a well-timed joke, or a simple act of generosity, he had a remarkable way of making people feel valued and welcome.
For many, a visit to the distillery was as much about seeing Larry as it was anything else. People looked forward to stopping by for a conversation, a laugh, or simply to spend time in his company. He had a gift for making everyone feel appreciated, and he was genuinely grateful for every person who took the time to visit.
Above all else, Larry was a family man. He was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather/great grandfather, and loyal friend. Larry built a legacy of love, laughter, integrity, and hard work that will continue to guide the Chadwick family for generations to come.
While we will miss him deeply, we find comfort in knowing that his spirit lives on in the family he loved, the land he nurtured, and the beauty of nature that brought him so much joy.
We will honor his memory every day and find him in the quiet forests, open fields, and all the beautiful places he treasured.
