Just trying to support the local economy 🍻. Steve was lucky enough to put some hours in at for the 2026 NZ hop season. This got us hankering some fresh hop pints. Local Canterbury brewers snagged some gorgeous hops from the farm, so we hit our favorite spots. Maybe a couple of got in the mix too 🥰

Homefield Farmhouse Ale and First Pick WCIPA, Late to the Party, Hop XPA, Local Drop Golden Ale, The Garston Flyer, Rakau Fresh Hop IPA, Touch Grass and Antipodal High Five, Cut and Run, .palace Fresh Hop Red IPA, Fresh Hop Canned Heat. Shout out to .brewers.collective and for having some great fresh hop beer in tap this season.

There are three certainties in life: death, taxes, and Dana Quinlan being the longest coworker/biggest supporter in the history of time.

How lucky were we when Dana Quinlan came to visit us here in Ōtautahi Christchurch this past March 2026?
Shout out to and Meghan for planning a great trip down to Canterbury. Bonus hangs with 🥰

This visit included and a damn good pie from , .palace . Crammed into just a day or two.

It is amazing how restorative another person's energy/misery can be in these times 😁.

Also, Steve will always check on Dana and her derelict pancreas/sugar levels at an incredibly endearing level 😍.

Bonus last Pic when we cosplayed as Ginny Weasley and Professor Snape at a beer release hosted by March 2016...whaaaat?

Of course we're supporting family owned/operated breweries in Christchurch, NZ.

Amy and Thomas opened up Renegade Brewery a year ago. We were there on the first day. Quality peeps with quality beers and community driven appeal. They celebrated their 1 year anniversary last week 🍻

Flick through the photos in the post and you'll spot Steve thoroughly enjoying supporting someone else running a brewery 😁.

Also, how is there NOT a brewery in Pittsburgh called Renegade?

And when Dyana was 3 years old, she lived half a block away from this spot on Orbell Street 🥰.

What a great way to start off 2026! We were invited up to Okuora Farms, home of , at the beginning of January. John and Maury were hosting a good old kiwi family holiday up on the banks of the Hurunui in North Canterbury when we popped up for a tour of the hop farm.

We've tried a few local delicious brews featuring Bold River hops, so it was nice to see the hop source 🌱. Along with hops (look at those Pacifica already producing huge cones), fruit trees are being grown, as well as luscious fields of barley.

Wonderful hospitality, oh, and ask John for a pint of his own pilsner. It is a good drop, indeed.

Yeehaw, Roundabout's 12 year anniversary 7/12/2013. How can we possibly celebrate considering we've closed up shop?

The same way we open up for random Ginga Wheat Release pop-ups just like those pop events we hosted on June 1st and 2nd, 2025. We just do it.

As usual, we were scrambling at the last minute, but yinz didn't seem to mind. Thanks for putting up with us, Pittsburgh 🫠

Such an amazing turnout, and it was so heartwarming to see so many familiar and friendly faces. We even had some peeps brave the Allegheny in kayaks to get here!

High fives to for brewing the Ginga for the 2025 season and for allowing Steve to tinker around the brewery. We are grateful for your generosity and friendship.

Massive shout out to for allowing us to run wild with their gorgeous outdoor space, right along the Allegheny River. Truly accommodating hosts.

And to our good pals, . Oh, how we've missed your tacos, empanadas, and that guac! Thank you for your partnership. We would not have been able to do these events without you.

And of course, we leaned on , and to make the pop-ups complete.

Until next time, PGH 🍻,
love you 🖤💛🖤💛

So head on down to their Etna location for a pint of Ginga Wheat, a 4pk to go and dinner by
We'll see you there and maybe actually have a conversation and catch-up 🥰

A Pop-Up Pop-UP EVENT at Tree Pittsburgh
Whew, it’s been a minute, but we just can’t let you go through a Pittsburgh summer without a pint of refreshing Ginga Wheat. Tree Pittsburgh is a zero waste facility and we will be using compostable cups and utensils. Please feel free to bring your own water bottle to keep cup use low.

Trevor from .brewing sums up everything perfectly

This Saturday, 4.12.25, we’ll be celebrating Coven’s 3rd anniversary. And today we’re very excited to announce the first of our anniversary releases! We couldn’t think of a better place to start than with this one.

Waikohu - 8.5% hazy DIPA proudly brewed with our 4901 Butler St predecessors . This beer not only represents a lot, but is a lot. Dry hopped with Rakau, Taiheke, and Galaxy at higher rates than we’ve yet to hop any other beer. This beer registers more IBUs than anything we’ve brewed to date as well; a nod to the beers Steve brewed on this very system for years. The finished product is very balanced, and refreshingly vibrant. When building out the recipe for this beer with Steve and Dyana we wanted to land on a beer that represented both what we’ve been working on here at Coven as well as the beers that Roundabout graced the city of Pittsburgh with for years. Look for flavors of stone fruit, lychee, and pops of intense Fruitstripe gum reminiscent of that 2016 Galaxy we all fell in love with.

Waikohu (pronounced WHY - KOE - WHO) is a Maori word that can be loosely translated to water (wai) haze/fog/mist (kohu).

On the label of this beer, you’ll find a collage of pictures provided by Dyana from their location in Lyttelton, just over the hill from her hometown of Christchurch.

This is a very special beer for many reasons, one of the biggest being whom it was brewed in collaboration with. I think I can say with certainty that damn near every Coven employee, both current and past, has a handful of fond memories revolving around drinking Roundabout beer whether at their pop-up or in this very building. When we moved into this space 38 long (and short) months ago, it was largely due to Steve and Dayna’s desire for the space to play home to a new brewery. A completely new concept, and not an expansion of an existing brand. They worked with us through the transitional period and process but the relationship didn’t end there. I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t fired off a handful of emails over the years inquiring about certain quirks of the space. And they’re always happy to help.
