Penn Brewery

Penn Brewery https://linktr.ee/pennbrew Penn Brewery tells the story of Pittsburgh’s European immigrants through its craft beer and homemade cuisine.
(2629)

Pittsburgh’s oldest and largest brewery, Penn is housed in the mid nineteenth-century landmark E&O Brewery Building in the North Side’s Deutschtown neighborhood, which was settled by German immigrants. Penn has been producing high-end craft beers since 1986, specializing in authentic, award-winning German-style beers brewed in the tradition of these immigrants, according to the strict quality stan

dards of Reinheitsgebot. Our beers’ great taste comes from real German hops and two-row barley, with no added corn or rice fillers. Penn Brewery’s restaurant serves traditional “Euro-Pittsburgh” fare including wurst, schnitzel, pierogi, and goulash alongside our beers. In the spirit of our classic Pittsburgh theme, our menu emphasizes fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. Penn is open for lunch and dinner, Wednesday through Sunday, from 12 noon to 10pm, and regularly hosts live entertainment. A lovely cobblestone biergarten is open seasonally. Private party bookings are also available. Penn Brewery is proudly independently owned and operated.

Our Steel City 🖤💛 showed up for a little piece of copper this week. “Business is still brewing here. Right now they are brewing the beer for their Oktoberfest celebrations and are full steam ahead in those plans…” WTAE-TV This holiday weekend, we’re grateful for the people who look out for Pittsburgh history and one another. Thank you to Pittsburgh Police Zone 1, everyone who shared the story, and the South Pittsburgh Hooligans RFC for the support. Because of the quick recovery, this historic copper kettle piece is once again set to become a memorial plaque honoring our late former Head Brewer Andy Rich. Prost, Pure. Pittsburgh. UPDATE: Great news! 🥹 Huge thanks to City of Pittsburgh Police Dept and the detective involved for his quick work tracking down the historic copper kettle piece stolen from Penn Brewery. This part of Pittsburgh brewing history is again on track to become a memorial honoring our late former Head Brewer Andy Rich. Thanks to Zone 1, the piece was spared, located unmelted at the bottom of a scrap pile and safely returned (albeit a little smudgier) and the suspects have both been charged. We would like to say how incredibly grateful to all yinz and really all of Pittsburgh who shared the story and helped spread the word. Now get down here and have a beer from our copper kettles. Prost! Love, Penn Brewery. Pure. Pittsburgh. KDKA-TV | CBS Pittsburgh

Sunday morning, a piece of Pittsburgh brewing history was stolen from our brewhouse.

The original bottom of our copper brew kettle, a thick 4-foot section removed during a 2023 repair, was taken from the brewery. While some may see scrap metal, this piece represented decades of Penn Brewery history and craftsmanship.

What makes this especially heartbreaking is that plans were underway to turn it into a memorial plaque honoring our late former Head Brewer, Andy Rich.

Amid everything else happening around us, it is disappointing that anyone would choose to take something with such deep historical and sentimental value to the brewery and to those who worked here through the years.

We are currently working with detectives from the Pittsburgh Police to investigate the theft and hopefully arrange for the piece’s return.

Penn Brewery is OPEN.

Penn Brewery is a tenant occupying only a fraction of the historic building and 4-acre northside complex.

Like many commercial properties, the building itself may change ownership over time, while the businesses operating inside continue serving their customers as usual. Again, the brewery business and the real estate property are not the same thing.

This historic complex we call home is also home to many long-standing and reputable tenants including doctors offices, salons, law offices, and other small businesses. In fact, even Franco Harris previously had an office in our D-Building for his company.

That said, please continue supporting local small businesses and join us tomorrow 12-10pm for Halfway to Oktoberfest with The Heritage Band in the biergarten! 🍻
