This post is for clarification and transparency.
There is alot circulating on social media today and I want to be 💯 clear and honest.
When I first opened last June, I was contacted about being a Vendor for the Town of Phillipsburg . What does that mean? It means I had to submit paperwork and be approved by the current town council as an approved business who would provide services (my baked goods for any town business, meetings, etc that I was asked) , I would submit an invoice and await payment for Council approval and then be written a check to be paid. Sometimes this can take time but usually within the month, depending on when everything falls in line. I have done this several times. The amount requested (so another words, they give a budget and ask for certain items and I provide those items within budget). There has never been an issue, they have always paid me.
Here is where I want to be clear. I almost always provide more product than what is paid for. That's because I believe in service. I ALWAYS donate hot coffee and snacks for the Veterans Day and September 11th ceremonies in Shappell Park. I dont say this for a pat on the back. I say this because its done without a big fanfare and they are all aware I do it because I love my town .
Last night, I had an invoice to be paid for 2 ribbon cuttings. Burleys Gym where I provided healthy protein cookies and Thistle and Sage where I helped create custom flavors to fit the business vibe. The 3rd thing was a Downtown Business walk where people from the State level come, walk around the small businesses and lend their expertise and assistance if needed. They are given a tour of each business, they meet amd speak with owners and it provides an open line of communication. They are given refreshments as a gesture of hospitality and gratitude. The paperwork was submitted as usual. Understand, I am tired. And I submit my invoices when time allows and that's on me.
Councilman Joshua Wanisko made a motion to pull my payment. Councilman Ed Saultz and Councilman Bernie Fey voted to pay us. While the other 2 agreed with Wanisko. I was told what Wanisko said but i wont repeat it until I have it word for word . My mom was in attendance at this meeting and spoke.
I do not make political statements. I support the Democratic and Republican party the same and this will not change.
I have friendships with people regardless of position, religion, preferences etc. That will not change.
This is simple. I did a job, I provided more than what I charged (at my own loss and by my own decision). I should be paid. Period.
Small business stories are all the same. Its a family, working hard to live their dream and provide for their family. We depend heavily on repeat customers, word of mouth and being active in our communities. I donate to countless organizations when asked. I support our Police , Fire and EMS. I do all of this without publicity. I do it because its what I was taught and what I believe.
I deserve to be paid. Period.
I appreciate the amazing show of love and support. My customers and community are the best! Thank you. Thank you for supporting my little pink bakery , my cupcake dreams and my family.
***edit. We would like to publicly apologize to Councilman Bernie Fey. We did not realize he voted to pay us along with Ed Saultz. What's tught is right. And we thank them both for standing up against this nonsense.
