On this edition of “Talk of the Tavern”, we sit down with legendary bar maiden — and biggest 🍆 in the Gayborhood — Natira.

You know her from U Bar, but did you know she got her start in the restaurant at Tavern? We talk favorite moments behind the bar, how potatoes factor into her s*x life, and get DOM’d on how to properly listen to K.D. Lang.

Natira is hosting our Oktoberfest Dinner in the restaurant on September 17th. If you know Natira, you know her real passion is German b**r — and she and Chef Bob are teaming up to transport you straight to Munich, with dishes and b**r pairings that will knock your socks off.

Book your seat for the Oktoberfest Dinner, September 17th, live on Resy — link in bio.

This week’s Catch of the Week is putting some serious pressure on the rest of the menu.

Black bass, pan-seared until the skin crackles and the inside stays silky, served alongside seasonally fresh asparagus and finished with a scallion chili relish for a little heat and brightness.

It’s the kind of plate that makes you slow down between bites — clean, confident cooking done right. Available all week at Tavern on Camac.

Your seat at the bar is waiting

Caught up with Sarah this week to gossip about this summer’s hottest cocktail: the Pink Lady. One part El Jimador Blanco, fresh watermelon juice, lime, and a homemade mint syrup. Her review? “Somewhere between a fruit salad and a bad decision.”

Our signature cocktails rotate seasonally. Come in before the fall menu takes over.

Pork filet mignon is on specials this week and it means business.

Tender, perfectly cooked, plated with a fried latke that somehow makes an already great dish better — crispy, golden, a little unexpected in the best way. French beans keep things honest. Red plum reduction ties it all together perfectly — the one bite that makes total sense, unlike your last situationship.

Come get it before it’s gone.

New specials just dropped and it’s a whole mood.

Grilled peach, golden beet & burrata salad, because summer isn’t over till we say it’s over.

Pork filet mignon with a fried latke and red plum reduction, for the people who take dinner seriously.

Banana bread pudding with peanut butter wh***ey crème anglaise, for the people who take dessert more seriously.

Rainbow trout, preserved lemon vinaigrette, shaved golden bar squash, watercress, almonds, shaved red onion — Middle Eastern flavors doing the most, and doing it well. It’s the one you’ll be thinking about tomorrow. It’s the one you’re seeing right now. 🌈🐟

Come try it this week.

Welcome to The Camac Street Reader: a series where we celebrate the art, history, and culture that our community is built on.

Four years before Stonewall, Philadelphia made LGBTQ history of its own. Dewey’s was a popular 24-hour diner at 17th and Ludlow, a Rittenhouse Square hangout known for its late-night crowd of drag queens, s*x workers, and gender-nonconforming youth.

In early 1965, after complaints about a “rowdy” crowd, management began refusing service to anyone who looked gay or gender-nonconforming, with staff turning away masculine women, feminine men, and “persons wearing nonconformist clothing.” On April 25, 1965, over 150 people were denied service in a single day. Three teenagers refused to leave and staged a sit-in, directly inspired by the Black civil rights movement’s lunch counter protests. They were arrested alongside Janus Society president Clark P***k, sparking a week of leafleting and a second sit-in on May 2. Facing continued pressure, Dewey’s reversed its policy — one of the earliest victories for LGBTQ rights in the country.

Today, a historical marker stands in Rittenhouse Square, honoring three unnamed teenagers who refused to be pushed out of their own hangout.

This week’s specials are giving main character energy.

The Fried Oysters are back with a new look — crispy, plated over fresh apples and herbs, finished with a Cajun-kissed mayo remoulade.

New to the slider lineup: Andouille sausage, house-made boursin, and a sweet chili glaze with just the right tang.

Finish strong with our chef’s dessert special — a Lemon Tart with graham cracker crust, strawberry compote, and house whipped cream. Solo or with the squad, Tavern’s got you covered.
