The Legend of The Peep Show
The birth of The Peep Show is a strange unique story made by fate. We are not exactly sure when the drink was originated, but we believe it was back in the early 1960’s. In 1999, The World Famous Penny Gardens Tavern was going through some renovations. While doing so, an old chest was stumbled upon in the basement. The chest was filled with treasures including many tra
ditional old recipes such as the rusty nail, martini, etc. There were old newspaper clippings from the early 60’s about the neighborhoods surrounding the bar like Pennypack and Academy Gardens. But tucked away in the corner of the chest was a bottle with an envelope inside. We broke the bottle and out came the envelope marked secret. It appeared to be a drink recipe with a very unusual mix of ingredients. The ingredients included a unique blend that none of us recognized. This was something we were going to have to try, but it would not be easy. We are willing to share the process, but not the ingredients. First we needed to obtain the finest wild berries from the Virgin Islands and have them shipped here in their ripest condition. We then let them ferment in 5 liquors of which 3 are imported. The mixture is maintained at the same temperature and checked twice daily until we believe the natural juices are at their best. Once this is done and we are satisfied with the results, we then add the last ingredient that is not in the original recipe. This is something we added to bring The Peep Show to the next level. We believe this is what makes The Peep Show so successful today.
