We’re excited to welcome local author Hollie Tometich to The Wijn House on Thursday, September 10 from 6:00–8:00 PM for a fun evening of Iowa wine, books and conversation!

Hollie, a Central College alumna from the Class of ’98, is the author of the novella Buy The Damn Shoes—and honestly, we can get behind that philosophy. 😉

Come meet Hollie, hear more about her book, sip some Iowa wine and hang out with fellow book lovers. It’s the perfect excuse to get out, try a new wine and maybe decide that yes…you really do need those shoes. 👠😂

🍎📚 NOW THAT SCHOOL IS UNDERWAY, IT’S TIME TO CELEBRATE THE TEACHERS WHO MAKE IT SPECIAL! 📚🍎

We waited until students had a chance to settle in, get to know their teachers, and discover who deserves an A+ — and now the Teacher Challenge is officially ON! 🎉

We’re teaming up with three other Downtown Pella businesses to launch the Teacher Challenge Report Card, and we want YOU to help us crown Pella’s Favorite Teacher! 🏆

📝 HERE’S YOUR ASSIGNMENT:

✅ Pick up a Teacher Challenge Report Card at any participating store.

✅ Visit all four participating businesses and collect a stamp at each one.

✅ Nominate your favorite teacher by turning in the TOP HALF of your completed Report Card with their name and school (yes, home schooling and higher education count)

✅ KEEP THE BOTTOM HALF! Your completed Report Card unlocks a special offer at each participating business for you (or your parents) to enjoy September 8–December 31, 2026. 🎉

A little wine, some trial and error, and a LOT of fun! I tried out an Italian Wine cookie recipe recently and wanted to share the results.

When I have Richard try new recipes, our "code" is...if he would serve it to guests. "Yes" means he liked the recipe, "no" is code for try again 😉

The recipe called for a dry wine - if I were to make them again, I would switch to a sweeter wine & see how those taste.

Also, I DEFINITELY need to hone up on my videography skills...poor Richard's head was cut off in most of the video 🤣

🌴🍹 September? Says who?! 😂

Sure, the calendar says it’s September, but with THIS heat, we’re still firmly in summer mode! ☀️😎

And today, we’re bringing back the Piña Colada Slushies! 🍍🥥 Come cool off with one in a glass, grab a to-go container, or take home a slushy mix and make your own!

It’s a 3-day weekend, it’s hot, and we’re open until 8:00 tonight… sounds like a pretty good excuse to stop by The Wijn House to me! 🍷

We are working on our "album" of food pairings and recipes using wine - this is our first album creation, so I appreciate your patience as I muddle through adding pictures and recipes!
