All good love stories involve a motorcycle and an escape.

The Night Dan & Gilda Had to Escape on a Motorcycle — New Orleans, 1976

In 1976, before Saturday Night Live was even a year old, Dan Aykroyd and Gilda Radner got their first real taste of what sudden fame felt like — New Orleans style.

They were in town for Mardi Gras, soaking in the chaos and the music, when a crowd of excited fans suddenly recognized them. Within seconds, the sidewalk turned into a mob scene. Someone yelled Gilda’s name, someone else shouted for Dan, and the whole thing snowballed.

Aykroyd didn’t hesitate. He grabbed his motorcycle, motioned for Gilda to hop on, and the two of them tore off into the night — weaving through Bourbon Street traffic, laughing like kids who couldn’t believe this was their life now.

It became one of those early SNL stories that people still pass around:
two young comedians, new to fame, running from a crowd and loving every minute of it.

A moment perfectly frozen in time — 1976, Mardi Gras, and the beginning of legends.

Still A Bad Cat at 100🫡🇺🇸

One of the original Marine Raiders, Frank S. Wright and was bayoneted in the stomach and shot in the chest during combat across the Pacific in World War II, including at Iwo Jima. He is 100-years of age. Thanks to the American Veterans Center, he was added to the rifle.
