Happy Friday Everyone!! Today is Catherine Crews Mrwik ‘s last scheduled shift so if you see her give her all the love!! We are open from 11am-4pm today. You can call in at 386-240-7448 and dine in or on the patio at 3403 Saint Johns Ave.
We wanted to take a moment to thank Catherine for all of her hard work and being such an important part of our success story. Although today is Catherine’s last scheduled shift she will still be seen in cameos in the future when people need days off and private events, but as she continues to live her best life, she will be shifting her focus to being a wonderful Dee Dee to her granddaughter, Mother planning her daughters upcoming wedding and Caregiver to her husband as our dear friend Jeff crushes C@ncer, and all around just being a supportive friend to everyone she lets into her heart.
When we opened Darlene’s, Catherine volunteered to help us get our feet on the ground for what was going to be one or two days a week. If any of you have recently worked in this industry you know it is tough. Finding reliable people, who truly care about the mission we are on to deliver a fresh clean menu, is hard to find. Couple that with finding someone who has the friendly welcoming spark we pride ourselves in at Darlene’s is even harder to find. That being said, what started as a volunteer role quickly turned into a concrete pillar in our success. Catherine jumped into an industry she didn’t know and took everything in stride. She took on the 4 days a week as Jon’s right hand woman and we grew.
In January we had begun discussing hiring someone and slowly transitioning Catherine back into her retired life and began interviews. Then the unthinkable happened and I got in a car wreck. What in any other circumstance would have shut us down, was avoided due to her selflessness, dedication and straight up friendship. She sat down with us and said, “ I am not going anywhere until WE get through this. We will find the right fit and until then I am here for you.” No hesitation or concern of her own needs, just selfless actions so we could keep going. Her lessons about life and friendship are something I will carry with me forever.
It is so bittersweet to have to write this post because even though I know I will see her all the time, I will miss the morning hugs, updates on all of the families adventures, and silly banter we have every day.
We are so grateful for you Catherine. Thank you for all the love and light you have brought to our shop and to everyone who walks through our door. If you come in today please help us celebrate this remarkable woman.
Love love love you,
The Darlene’s Team
