400 years of Raku. Day one of telling its story. 🔥

A little behind-the-scenes photo dump from the first day of filming a passion project I’ve dreamed about for a long time.

I don’t want to give too much away just yet. For now, I just want to say thank you.

A massive shoutout to Mauricio, Jason Derrick, Jim Boutin, and the entire Mauricio Handler team. I couldn’t feel more confident in the people helping me take on this Goliath of a mission.

Thank you to Tim Adams and betulalenta at Oxbow Brewing Company for welcoming us into the beautiful oxbowbeergarden in Oxford, Maine and giving us a place to bring the first day of this project to life.

Thank you to Scott Fuller, my former college professor and longtime mentor, who somehow became the connective tissue between meeting Tim and Birch here in Maine and meeting the AquaTerraFilms team more than a decade ago in Mexico. Funny how life comes full circle.

And thank you to Hi, Wangechi 😊, the AquaTerraFilms assistants, and everyone else who helped make day one possible.

The goal is ambitious: travel the world and tell the story of a 400-year-old ceramic tradition that I’ve fallen deeply in love with. This project will be years in the making, but I already know the journey will be worth it.

I’m excited to invite you out for an evening of free live Raku firing demonstrations in Oxford, Maine, and to help us kick off something much bigger.

On Wednesday, August 19th, I’ll Raku firing pottery from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Beer Garden while the Mauricio Handler team captures footage for the announcement trailer for my upcoming documentary exploring the history and 400-year journey of Raku.

oxbowbeergarden has generously allowed us to use this beautiful space to film, so we decided to open the firings up to the public too.

Come hang out, watch pieces get pulled glowing hot from the kiln, experience the Raku process firsthand, ask me anything you’d like, and get a behind-the-scenes look as we begin bringing this documentary to life.

We are so excited to host this event for the 3rd year in a row! Bring your dog or a friend and spend the day at the beer garden celebrating our furry friends. The event is free, open to the public and just a great time. Responsible Pet Care of Oxford Hills will be bringing some sweetie dogs who are ready to be adopted. WashAshore Store and Lickity Paws will be here vending, Mission Working Dogs will have dogs to snuggle and Canine Clubhouse of Maine will be here to answer your dog behavior questions!
