This story on The Today Show is worth 5 minutes of your day as it has special meaning for Miami. In 1973,1974 and 1975 Miami of OH was one of the most dominating college football teams in the country! Over the 3 years, Miami was 32-1-1 and beat Florida, Georgia and South Carolina in what is now called “The Citrus Bowl”. Think about the SEC today! Miami allowed just 24 total points in those 3 bowl games!!

For those of us old enough to remember that incredible run, among the incredible talent those teams was a great QB named Sherman Smith. Smith was unstoppable and drafted by the Seahawks in their inaugural season; the first offensive player ever chosen by the team. Fast forward to the early 90’s and Miami had a great running back named Deland McCullough. While their story came to light in 2017, the Today Show piece captures their special connection in such a great way.
