If You’re Nervous About Coming to the Walk… Please Read This.
As Saturday gets closer, we know there may be some of you who are thinking about coming to our Su***de & Mental Health Awareness Walk for the very first time and you might be nervous.
You may be wondering what to expect. You may be worried that you’ll get emotional. You may be coming because you’ve lost someone you love. You may be struggling yourself, supporting someone who is, or simply coming because mental health and su***de awareness matter to you.
Whatever your reason is for coming, you belong there.
Please know that so many people who have walked through those doors before you have felt those same nerves. You will be surrounded by people who understand. There is no judgment. There are no expectations. You don’t have to know what to say. You don’t even have to participate in the actual walk if you don’t feel up to it. Just showing up is enough.
And we want to make one promise to you.
If you drive to the walk, pull into the parking lot, and suddenly feel like you just can’t make yourself get out of the car and walk through those doors, please let one of us know.
Send us a message, call someone on our team, tell us you’re outside.
We will come out to you. We will meet you at your car, walk beside you, and personally es**rt you inside. You do not have to take those first steps alone.
Maybe you’ll cry. Maybe you’ll laugh. Maybe you’ll hug someone you’ve never met before. Maybe you’ll simply sit quietly and take it all in.
However you need to experience the day is okay.
This walk has never been about how far we walk. It’s about who we walk beside. It’s about remembering those we have lost, supporting those who are struggling, and reminding every single person that their life matters.
So if you’re nervous, come nervous. If you’re scared, come scared. If your heart is heavy, bring that heavy heart with you.
We’ve got you!
As we have been saying from the very beginning…Together, we are stronger.
And this Saturday, you do not have to walk through those doors alone.
