The Selosse family began making Ch*****ne under its own name in the 1960s, but Jacques’s son Anselme is the one that really changed the focus for the family. After studying w**emaking in Burgundy, he took over in the 1970s and began treating Ch*****ne as a w**e of place - paying close attention to individual vineyards, fermenting in oak, and letting the character of the grapes take the lead! Selosse showed that a small grower could make Ch*****ne with a distinct voice.
Made entirely from Chardonnay grown in the Grand Cru villages of Avize, Cramant, and Oger, it blends three successive harvests for a phenomenal balance of freshness and depth. Just gobs of ripe citrus and orchard fruit, toasted nuts, with a chalky, savory finish, and baby, those fine bubbles are tying all of this together. It’s a gorgeous introduction to the richly textured, unmistakable style of Selosse!
