Over the last few weeks, a lot of people have asked about the downstairs space at Doc’s Place.
If you’ve peeked down the staircase, you’ve probably wondered what we’re doing down there.
The answer is simple: we’re getting it ready for something special.
We’re calling it Doc’s Underground.
The space beneath Main Street has a character all its own. Stone walls, old beams, low lighting, and the kind of atmosphere you just can’t build from scratch. It feels like a room that already has stories to tell.
Like most old buildings, ours comes with a few legends.
Over the years, people have shared stories about private meetings, hidden rooms, traveling Masons, and lantern-lit gatherings beneath the streets of Oregon. Whether those stories are fact, folklore, or somewhere in between, they’ve become part of the building’s history.
One story tells of a lantern that once hung in a hidden chamber below the building. Those who knew where to look could see its glow through a narrow opening in the stone. Everyone else walked by without ever knowing it was there.
Others talk about footsteps.
Not loud ones. Not scary ones.
Just a few slow steps crossing the room after everyone has gone home.
Of course, old buildings settle. Floors creak. Stories grow with each passing year.
At least that’s the official explanation.
As we prepare the space for Doc’s Underground, we’ve spent a lot of evenings downstairs imagining what those walls have witnessed over the last hundred years. Travelers. Businessmen. Celebrations. Conversations. Secrets.
Soon, that space will have a new chapter.
A place for handcrafted cocktails, good conversation, and a little mystery tucked beneath Main Street.
And before anyone asks, yes, I wrote this myself. No AI, no ghostwriter—just a little imagination inspired by an old building, local history, and a room that’s been waiting a long time for its next story.
We’ll be sharing more as Doc’s Underground comes together.
Until then, remember:
Every town has its secrets. Ours are served downstairs starting on July 6th.
