In honor of Juneteenth, here’s a famous African-American Cascadian we’re proud of:
George Washington (1817–1905) was born into slavery, he moved to the Pacific Northwest and is recognized as the founding father of Centralia, WA in 1875—one of the largest U.S. cities founded by an African American.
