From our friends at Red Dirt Relief Fund — Red Dirt Relief Fund pledges $50,000 to aid Oklahoma music people affected by COVID-19

While we cannot know how COVID-19 will spread or how long this crisis will last, we do know that this virus has universally devastated our working music community. In the past week, a majority of gigs and festivals for the coming weeks and months have cancelled or postponed. While some Oklahomans are fortunate to have paid leave, remote-work options and other safety nets, working musicians without gigs are left without income to pay their bills.

As an organization that provides a safety net of emergency assistance to Oklahoma music people, we cannot imagine a more critical time to come to their aid.

In this spirit, Red Dirt Relief Fund will provide up to $50,000 to working music people in the form of one-time emergency grants of $250 on a first-come, first-served basis.

We believe this small act of solidarity can help everyone better weather this storm. At the same time, we know it won't be enough. Can you help us help more musicians?

🔥 Let’s talk about audience experience. We want to know! What is important to you when you buy a ticket to a live show? More important, what would make you want to come back? Is it ambience, size of the venue, whether you will be seated or standing, assigned seats, bar service? Is there an expectation of showmanship from the performer or band? Let us know in the comments. 👇🏽.

Change the Music Seen

OkSessions was inspired by Saints Sessions, a jazz jam in the Plaza District. That jam featured a collective of established touring artists who had been playing in OKC for years. With the help of other creatives (photographer, videographers, and emcees), these highly accomplished musicians were put in the spotlight in a new way. Media sources in OKC caught on, and a beautiful, collaborative community began to thrive.

Saints Sessions proved the importance of music media. Good media only happens when you have other creatives actively participating to further the culture. OkSessions seeks to be the hub that pulls creatives together to help each other’s stories get told. Writers blog, photographers capture, videographers create glimpses of amazing experiences, Tastemakers, set the tone for the eventing, emcees make the artists look good, and artists connect with fans in an authentic way.

OkSessions simply helps the great musicians in OKC perform to the crowd most suitable to the music. We help audiences find that music by helping the scene create great content, being active on Social Media, maintaining a great calendar of events, leveraging technology to make enjoying live music more frictionless, and inviting the professional world to help us make Oklahoma City a great place to hear music.

Our mission is to make Oklahoma City one of the best music cities in the world. We want musicians to make a great living here locally, so we can retain them. We all want to be able to go out any given night of the week, and lose ourselves in an amazing boutique musical experience with the people around us. We’re happy to pay for that experience, as long as we know we will get a quality performance from artists who value their audience. We are working to get us there, and we appreciate all the support from everyone who shouts us out online, comes to our sessions, and is hungry for local music.
