To Our Ojai Roots Family,
We want to give you an update because so many of you have been asking when the shop is reopening — and especially when families and kids will be able to join us.
Earlier this year, we asked the City to update our old permit so we could operate more like the farmshop and restaurant we’ve grown into—welcoming families, opening in the mornings for coffee and pastries, new hours, and better serving our community.
On August 5th, the Planning Commission approved allowing minors, which was a huge step forward. Unfortunately, that decision was appealed by a local HOA, and the remaining decisions about our hours and seating were also delayed. The HOA’s preference for restricting us to operate as a w**e bar over a family friendly establishment seemed surprising.
We’ve been doing everything we can to work with the City and our neighbors to resolve this. We even had a meeting scheduled with the HOA in September, but they canceled shortly before it was supposed to begin.
The issues are scheduled to be reviewed again on October 21st and possibly December 8th. Until we have more clarity, there’s too much uncertainty for us to both sustainably and responsibly reopen the shop. We are working closely with the City of Ojai to potentially open sooner than the timeline given. We know this has been frustrating and confusing. It has been for us too.
Thank you for your patience and for the incredible amount of support you’ve shown us. Ojai Roots has been part of this community for nearly 10 years, and we’re committed to being here for the long run.
We can’t wait to welcome you and your families back! 🤍
