A celebration of the blues and community will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2017, when Bowlful of Blues rolls and rocks into Ojai's Libbey Bowl. Headlining the festival's 24th edition, direct from Lafayette, Louisiana in an exclusive West Coast appearance, is acclaimed zydeco/blues band and Rounder Records artists, Nathan & t

he Zydeco Cha-Chas. Performances at the afternoon and evening gala affair include the downhome, deep blues of Morganfield Burnett & Da Blues; the seminal soul/funk/R&B group Raw Silk; Ventura mainstays, the Gypsy Blues Band with special guest Bill Flores; and L.A./Austin recording artist, Cody Lepow. Ojai's hometown American roots music festival, founded in 1983, will take place from 4:00 to 9:30 p.m. A variety of food and spirits will be on hand as well as arts, crafts and blues music booths. Picnicking on the lawn is welcome. Bowlful of Blues is presented by the Community Advocacy Coalition of Ventura County (the-cac.org) and their affiliate FM and internet radio station, Rhythm of the Coast (rhythmofthecoast.com), in association with the Kaufer Brothers. Today, May 20, would have been the 75th birthday of my dear friend Cody LePow (https://www.facebook.com/CodyLePow). Sadly, he passed away on August 30, 2022. Cody was a musical genius: an accomplished guitarist (acoustic, electric, steel, slide), a topnotch harmonica player, saxophonist, songwriter, vocalist, bandleader, and producer. He did a masterful job of producing my album "The High Road" in 2004 (https://www.reverbnation.com/lannykaufer/songs). Whether or not you care for my original songs, you can't help but notice the arranging and mixing of the many instruments and vocalists on that multi-faceted project. In his memory, please check out this video by my son Aran Kaufer of a track Cody produced for the album. This remix features vocalist James Antunez with background vocals by the late, great June Pointer. Photo of Cody (with June's sister Bonnie Pointer at another remix session) in the comments section below since I can't post the video and the photo together here. Love you and miss you, Cody!

2018 Bowlful of Blues opening act Rahul Nedunuri is featured in this article from the Simi Valley Acorn. We are happy to have given this rising star a chance to show his stuff at our festival. We're also impressed by the volunteer work he does at the hospital.

With his mom's help, 8-year-old Holden Miller slowly lifted his hand to touch the acoustic guitar played by 16-year-old Rahul Nedunuri. When Jennifer Miller took her hand away, her son continued holding on to the guitar's wooden body as Rahul strummed the chords of a bluesy tune. For the next five m...

Here's what Kate, a fan from Santa Barbara, had to say about the 25th Bowlful of Blues:

"What a night! Every bit of the time and care you rallied and spent on putting together that Bowlful was well worth it! Great venue, line-up, acoustics, helpful volunteers and prelim info. Rare to see an event so well organized and everyone happy!

Rod Piazza blew me away — even as great as J Harman is, RP was beyond great— he is right there In It!! Also really loved the energy both Selwyn and Teresa and bands brought, and Hot Roux nailed it too.

Wow, am still absorbing. Thank you and all who coordinated!! Great vision, wholly manifested.
