Want to thank everybody that turned out today for Smitty's celebration. I think we did him proud and gave him a good OP send off. Special thanks to Gisele, Brenda, Kenny & Patti and my staff for making it such a special day. And Gunny, thanks for lending us the ceremonial sword - that was something special!!

Bid a sad final farewell to my dear friend Fred Smith (Smitty) today at Roberts Funeral Home and then at Florida National Cemetery where he was given full Military Honors. So many people turned out to pay their respects. What a lasting testament to somebody who touched and embraced everybody around him with care, love and understanding, and a sympathetic shoulder. This should be a beacon for us all to aspire to. God Bless you Smitty. The world needs more people like you. Don't forget to come celebrate his life with us at Our Place next Saturday 7th February from 2:00pm.

OK Folks sorry about all the back and forth over this. We're now back to plan A which is hosting a Memorial event for Smitty at OP at 2:00pm on Saturday 7th February. His personal wish was that if his friends wanted to share their memories it should be at OP, so that is what we are going to do. Needless to say if that doesn't work for each and every one of his many friends (bearing in mind we are still a smoking bar), you can of course make your own arrangements to honor his life, and please feel free to do so. I'm sure wherever he is now he will smile down on us all anyway.

Sorry folks the plans have changed with regards to the Celebration Of Life for Smitty. I didn't know that us, the VFW and the Moose lodge were all wanting to host the event. Obviously there is no point in all of us wanting to do this. So after talking with Patti, she has said that she would prefer it to be at the Moose Lodge as that gives those non smokers that would otherwise not attend the opportunity to pay their respects. Of course we're happy to go along with her request. So all of you that would like to be there I suggest that you contact the Lodge for details for date and time as it may not be on the same date that we proposed at OP. Sorry for the confusion. Wherever and whenever it is we can all get together and celebrate Smitty's life.

For many of you that have asked about the arrangements for Smitty's funeral there is an obituary page available from Roberts at https://www.robertsfunerals.com/obituaries/fred-smith-56/ #!/Obituary
Note the service will be at the Roberts funeral home on Maricamp road (Roberts of Ocala East Chapel, 2739 SE Maricamp Road), January 30th at 10:00am, so NOT the location on SR200 that most of us are familiar with.
Following this there will be a graveside service with military honors at the Bushnell National Cemetery. Bearing in mind that this will be a long and emotional day for all of us we have decided that we will wait a short while before holding the celebration of life event at Our Place. So our plan is to hold this the following week on Saturday 7th February at 2:00pm. I trust all those of you that knew Smitty and valued his remarkable camaraderie will join us for both events.

I am sure most of you will have heard by now about the untimely passing of our dear friend Smitty. Whilst those of us who were his personal friends knew that there was no hope of recovery from the aggressive cancer that only manifested itself a short time ago, we respected his request to not go public and let the whole world know that he only had a short time left. Sadly he passed away last night in his sleep, but hopefully free of pain. All those of us who knew him will deeply mourn his loss and remember him forever. I know his request is to be interred at the Bushnell Military Cemetery, and after that we will celebrate and honor his life and service to his Country the only way we know how at OP. As soon as we know arrangements we will post details, so please all those of you that knew and loved him, check out our page for details. In the meantime say a prayer for his family and especially Pattie DeLouie who cared for him right up to the end. God bless you Smitty - Golf will never be the same without you!
