OAKLAND, MD – Sipside Lounge will be opening one more time on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. to benefit Garrett Regional Medical Center’s Foundation campaign for behavioral health.

Sipside owners Barb and Pat Franc are delighted to support such an important and needed cause in the community.

"Pat and I are thrilled to have a way to support this great and much needed cause for our community,” said Barb Franc. “We invite everyone to stop by and see us one more time at Sipside to support GRMC and the Behavioral Health Center.”

The event is open to the public and will feature a cash bar with specialty cocktails, tacos from Don Patron, a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, and live music entertainment by Heart 2 Heart. The evening will also feature several members of the GRMC medical staff serving as guest bartenders.

Event proceeds and all tips will support behavioral health services at GRMC’s Family Health and Wellness Center located at 69 Wolf Acres Drive in Oakland. Since opening in 2019, the demand for mental and behavioral health care and treatment at GRMC’s regional behavioral health center continues to climb.

The Foundation’s behavioral health campaign seeks to enhance the existing facility space through renovation and/or expansion to better serve the needs of patients and the community.

Please make plans to join us for this special occasion as we’ll once again light the fireplace and have music in the air. Specialty beverages and more will be served up by professionals and volunteers alike, courtesy of Garrett Regional Medical Center. This new GRMC Behavioral Health Center will be such an important asset for our community. And everyone is welcome.

The GRMC Foundation is excited to announce Sipside Lounge will be opening for one last special night on Wednesday, May 3rd, 5-9 p.m., to support GRMC’s Behavioral Health Center.

Hosted by Barb and Pat Franc, this event is open to the public. Come help us raise funds for a great cause! The evening will feature a cash bar with specialty cocktails and live music from Heart 2 Heart.

We hate to say goodbye so let this suffice.
As most of you may know our family has been growing across this country and we couldn’t be more excited. We have been dividing our time between Oakland and all-too-precious family time which brings us to a difficult decision. We are closing Sipside Lounge effective immediately and allowing ourselves to enjoy retirement, smell some roses and play with our grandchildren.
It has been an incredible experience these past several years and we are so grateful for the friendships we’ve made. It was a “love project” from the start but we never expected masks and rapid tests to complicate things. So many of our loyal patrons supported us and became friends through it all with a vested interest in our success. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Sipside’s final few days saw us celebrate the life of our dear friend Bob Carney with a fundraiser, much music and merriment with friends and guests and fittingly with our local faves Phil Green, Douge & Eli Helbig strumming the last notes of a song at 10PM on Saturday night.
Our dedicated staff members, both current and past, have been invaluable. Everyone who worked at Sipside helped make it a special place and we thank all of you for that.
Whether from up the street or multiple states away, countless musicians graciously shared their own “love projects” both inside and out by the historic fireplace. Thank you for your gifts.
Our wish is that someone (hopefully younger and with more energy 😁) will want to continue providing Oakland its own one-of-a-kind meeting place. To serve this purpose we are placing the property and business up for sale soon with Betsy Spiker-Holcomb and Karen Myers of Taylor-Made.
Thank you again for all the kindnesses and support; fingers crossed it will continue in new hands.

This Thursday it’s the inaugural “Be Like Bob” event - the Bob Carney Scholarship Fundraiser. You only had to meet him once and he left an indelible impression - a giver” in every sense of the word.
Following the lead from Taylor-Made Real Estate, several local applicants from Garrett County young adults will receive scholarships for college. Help grow this fund by showing up and having fun like Bob loved to. Music by the Terah Crawford Band, food from Tomanetti’s, Orange Crush specials in honor of the “da big guy”, silent auctions, and more. Starting at 5P.
