Cheers to 142 years!!! June 1st, 1884 was the day Johnny Heinold made good on his plan to sell beer out of the little building near the port, that the oystermen were no longer using as a bunk house. About 10 years prior, those oyster farmers had paid some carpenters to pull apart an abandoned paddle steamer (pictured in the last slide) called the Umatilla, and build a structure out its lumber. No idea why they stopped using but were glad they did, because that's when our original owner hatched his idea. Thanks Johnny, were still here thanks to that plan. Come celebrate with us this weekend and check out the even smaller recreation of Oakland's oldest business Heinolds' First and Last Chance Saloon!
