Meet the Host: KJ Lance of Bigshot Entertainment
From country classics to rock anthems and everything in between, KJ Lance has become a familiar face throughout southern Minnesota/ Northern Iowa karaoke scene. As the owner and host behind Bigshot Entertainment, he’s known for creating an atmosphere where everyone—from first-time singers to seasoned performers—feels welcome to grab a microphone and have some fun. We sat down with Lance to learn more about the man behind the music.
Q: Tell us a little about yourself and Bigshot Entertainment.
Lance: I’m the owner and primary host of Bigshot Entertainment, and my goal has always been simple: create a fun, welcoming environment where people can enjoy music and make memories. Whether someone is singing for the first time or they’re a regular performer, I want them to feel comfortable getting up on stage.
Q: How did you get started hosting karaoke?
Lance: I’ve always loved music and live entertainment. Band politics pulled me out of that game and I needed an outlet Karaoke combines both of those things while giving everyday people a chance to be the star of the show for a few minutes. What started as an interest eventually grew into Bigshot Entertainment, and I’ve been fortunate to meet a lot of great people along the way.
Q: What do you enjoy most about being a karaoke host?
Lance: Seeing people surprise themselves. Someone will come in saying they’re not going to sing, and before the night is over they’re on stage having the time of their life. Watching confidence grow and seeing people connect through music is incredibly rewarding.
Q: What makes a great karaoke night?
Lance: It’s all about the crowd. Good music, positive energy, and people encouraging each other make all the difference. My job is to keep things moving smoothly and make sure everyone feels included.
Q: You also perform music yourself. Does that help you as a host?
Lance: Absolutely. Being a singer helps me understand what performers are feeling when they get on stage. I know the excitement, but I also know the nerves. That perspective helps me support singers and make the experience enjoyable.
Q: What kind of music do you personally enjoy?
Lance: I enjoy a wide variety of music, but Americana and country have always been favorites of mine. Great songs tell stories, and those genres are full of memorable stories and emotions.
Q: What’s the most memorable thing you’ve seen at a karaoke show?
Lance: There are too many to count. Some of the best moments happen when someone unexpectedly delivers an incredible performance or when an entire crowd starts singing along. Those are the moments people remember long after the night is over.
Q: What advice would you give someone who’s nervous about singing?
Lance: Just do it. Nobody is expecting perfection. Karaoke is about having fun, not being flawless. Pick a song you love, take a deep breath, and enjoy the experience. You might surprise yourself.
Q: What’s next for Bigshot Entertainment?
Lance: Continuing to grow, bringing great entertainment to more venues, and helping create memorable nights wherever we go. At the end of the day, it’s all about bringing people together through music.
