Vision Statement for The Pub at Fiddler’s Green
On the surface The Pub at Fiddler’s Green (FG) has the look and smell of a local Sports Bar, but it is that and so much more. FG is my dream or vision of a place where “selfless servants”, first responders and those that serve their community can meet and enjoy the comradery of like-minded people. People like EMTs, policemen, firemen, and military (active duty, retired, Veterans, National Guardsmen, Reservists, and Members of the Norwich Corps of Cadets who intend to pursue a commission and serve their country) need to be recognized for their contributions or actions and their service to our country (present, past, and future).
I am working with a select group of Norwich Alumni, Norwich Cadets and friends to solicit donations to make this dream a reality. At the present we are attempting to quickly raise $75K in donations to renovate the building, buy new equipment, and quickly transform FG and get it operational. The intent is to repay all donations ($1K or more) once FG is fully operational and embraced by the Corp of Cadets and those it is intended to support.
FG is actually – Fiddler’s (Sports Bar and Restaurant) and The Green (socializing area) – 2 separate LLCs but under the overarching control of The Pub at Fiddler’s Green. Fiddler’s will offer a limited menu of good Pub Food at a reasonable price, select local and international brews/wine, and a limited selection of alcohol focusing on Vermont distilleries.
The Green will have 2ea 7’ pool tables, 2ea dart boards, and TVs. It will have free Wi Fi and a large couch and 2 stuffed chairs to relax in. At some future point the Green will also manage a small efficiency apartment or tiny house to help those in need at minimal or no cost for up to 3 weeks. We will work with them and other organizations to find them a job and a suitable long term place to live.
FG intends to operate a shuttle service to and from Norwich University at minimal cost or no cost for donors/members to promote no drinking and driving.
How do we make this possible? This is possible thru monthly donation of patrons who believe in this dream. Cadets/students are asked to donate $15 per month or $150 for the year. The $15 donation/membership gets you free shuttle service to and from Norwich and FG, 10% discount on all food and beverages, access to the Green, free pool, darts etc. Additionally, FG will sponsor gatherings for Members to network with Alumni and select speakers - distinguished men and women who have been where the Cadets are going, entrepreneurs – breweries and brew masters (Do you even know what IPA stands for or how it originated) [REMEMBER Drink less Drink a better beer and please NEVER ask, “what the cheapest beer is” – “That is not how you want to go through life”.] On select occasions the Green may be open to normal patrons, but as a rule it is reserved for those who donate, are members, and support the dream.
This concept enables us to keeps costs at Fiddlers for food and drink at a minimal cost; promotes do not drink and drive, networking, support special events such as dining-ins for NU companies etc.
FG wants to be a good steward for the community – shovel snow for the elderly in Northfield; help sponsor and support community events; help where possible such as contributing to the free breakfast program for school kids who lack the funds to receive the meal.
Parents we are your partner in helping ensure your young men and don’t drink and drive and jeopardize lives, their military scholarship, prevent a DUI or Violation of Norwich’s Alcohol Policy. You can’t be everywhere, but we both can encourage your sons and daughters to be responsible and make smart decisions.
Future Goal: I would like to sponsor or build a rustic lodge on a small Vermont lake surrounded by 10 tiny houses that can prove a place to canoe, kayak, or embrace nature for up to a week at no or minimal cost. Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD) affects more than just our military – just go ask our first responders.
We will have a Facebook account to keep everyone posted on where we are with the dream, what we are currently doing, what our future goals and objectives are, and where we can use some help.
I/We can do this alone but together we can make a difference, help the community, recognize those who sacrifice, and lay the foundation to help build our nation on the ideals and principles that make us great.
