Almost a year ago I found out my boyfriend had been cheating on me, so I decided to fake an entire engagement and wedding… just to waste his time, money, and embarrass him in front of everybody who thought he was getting married.
I started talking about how I wanted a “small, intimate wedding,” acting excited about our future, showing him rings, venues, dresses… the whole nine. His family got involved, everybody was excited, and before long they were helping plan and spending money.
This man really thought he had finally secured his future with me.
His mama was picking colors. His cousins were talking about bridesmaid dresses. We had people taking off work, making travel plans, buying outfits, sending money, ALL OF IT.
And I just kept smiling like, “Awww, I can't wait to marry you.”
Then came the engagement party.
Everybody showed up dressed up, congratulating us, taking pictures, drinking champagne…
I got up in front of everybody and said:
“Thank y'all for coming. I just wanted to make one thing very clear…
I'M NOT GETTING MARRIED.
I only planned this entire thing because I wanted him and everybody who helped him play in my face to understand exactly how it feels to be made a fool of.
You played with a loyal woman.
Unfortunately for you, I had time, creativity, and access to a Pinterest account.
The relationship ended that night.
The wedding never existed.
But the lesson? PRICELESS.
