Skranch goes Hollywood

Over the last three weeks DSR hosted the giant film crew for a major Production. Film was shot on DSR property, Old Hwy 40 and the Tunnels. The production manager stated they spent more than 4 million dollars in the Donner Summit-Truckee-Tahoe area during that time. Everything went so well they promised they would be back with another project.

The sign that started out as a joke became national news. It seems everyone had a lot to say. Good, Bad and Much Hate.
We are sorry that your moral standards are so high you will not mention an unsafe condition for your safety or the safety of others.
We are sorry if you do not believe all resorts should use all means to insure the safety of all guest.
This season 2026-2027 e-mail a photo of a working DSR lift operator on their cell phone that day and receive a voucher for a free lift ticket. Safety is that important.

DOUBLE DOWN---RAT EM OUT---SAFETY FIRST
Lift safety is everyone’s responsibility.
The top lift operators job is to make sure all guest unload the lift safely. Slow or stop the lift as needed and make sure the unloading ramp is in good shape.

Say you just arrived at the resort. It snowed 3” over night. It is a blue bird day. After a few runs you are thinking this is going to be the best day of skiing of my life. When you get to the top you notice the lift operator is not paying attention as he is watching a movie on his phone. You think Huh, that is probably not good but don’t say a thing. A bunch more runs and you are thinking this is awesome. Just before lunch you are a little tired, get crossed up getting off the lift and fall. The lifty is still not paying attention. Does not stop or slow the lift so the 260 lb guy getting off the next chair falls on you and breaks your collar bone. He is very sorry but you were in the middle of the ramp. He skies off.
The pain is almost intolerable as Ski Patrol loads you into the toboggan. You feel every bump on the trip down as the two sides of your broken collar bone are scraping together. You are thinking this sucks. When you get to the Ski Patrol room and they immobilize your collar bone you feel a little better and start thinking who is to blame? Even though the Skiers Responsibility Code says I must be able to safely load and unload the lift it could not be my fault. That Damn lifty was watching a movie and not paying attention, But I could have said something. As you are getting loaded into the ambulance you are thinking the resort should do a better job keeping their liftys off of their phones. This was all so avoidable.

This is where we are at. This is not about pay or training or supervision or anything else. We can not be everywhere. If you care the least bit about lift safety RAT EM OUT because this could be you.
