Our new drink that is worth a try! The Pink Mezcalera!

Agave, or maguey in the ancient Nahuatl language of the Aztecs, has been part of Mesoamerican culture for thousands of years.

The ancestor of tequila, mezcal derived from the word mexicali, meaning 'cooked agave' in the ancient Nahuatl language. Today, most producers continue making mezcal using 16th-century methods: the heart of the plant is smoked underground for several days before being crushed by a millstone known as a tahona, usually drawn by a horse or ox. The pulp is then added to wooden vats for fermentation, followed by at least two distillations in copper or clay pots.

Unlike tequila, which can only be made from blue agave, mezcal can be made from any agave plant native to Mexico. Nine Mexican states can legally produce the spirit, but the largest producer in the country is Oaxaca.

So Come Try The Pink Mezcalera!

This week’s drink is a Tamarindo margarita a tangy costal drink that is worth a try!

Tamarind originated in tropical Africa and Madagascar thousands of years ago! Now in Mexico it’s a regularly used sweetener that is used as a main ingredient in Mexican candy, drinks, or even dishes! How did it get to Mexico? Tamarind trees are native to Africa and Asia and arrived in Mexico via Spanish trade ships on Manila galleons during colonial times.

Mexico’s warm tropical climate proved ideal for growing the tree, making the harvest abundant and affordable in states like Jalisco, Colima, and Michoacán.

Over centuries, it integrated so deeply into local culinary traditions that many consider it a native staple.
